WVU Campus Pictures! (dialup warning!)
ThinkBlue1966 took these last Fall, at the start of classes. This is where I'll be going to college this coming Fall! Enjoy! Captions below each picture.

This is Stewart Hall. It was built in 1902 and was originally used as a campus library. It's currently used as the Administrative office building, as well as the Office of the University President.

This is a closeup of one of the turrets of Stewart Hall. See the grotesques? WVU has a lot of grotesques and gargoyles on the older campus buildings.

This is Woodburn Hall, the second-oldest building on campus. It was built in 1867. The clock in the tower still works, but the bells do not. This is the building where I will be spending most of my days, as it is the current home of the Political Science Department, and is where the vast majority of Poli-Sci, History, and Philosophy classes are held. If WVU has a "flagship" building, this one would be it.

These are the 88 Steps Of DOOM. They go down the hill behind Woodburn Hall, and lead first to the Business & Econ building, and then into lawn in front of the new Life Sciences building. They also lead to the station for Morgantown's "PRT" system (Personal Rapid Transit) which is the form of public transportation students use to get quickly around downtown. I will be making at least two trips up and down these steps every day. I see much stronger calf muscles in my future. :hi:

This is not one of our photos--I found it on Google. This is the center of campus--you can see one of the turrets of Woodburn Hall in the far left upper corner. See the big ship's mast toward the right, in the middle of the island? That is the mast taken from the USS West Virginia, one of the ships that sank during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The ship's bell was also recovered (you can see it near the base of the mast, to the right). There's a tradition here that whenever a currently-enrolled student dies, the other students gather around the bell for a candlelight vigil and a bell-ringing ceremony. This has brought some controversy with the local VFW organizations, who don't think the bell should ring for anyone who isn't a soldier.

So there you go--a little glimpse into what my world will be like this Fall. :)

3. Gorgeous shots!
And I well remember the 88 steps of doom, and having to run my ass up them (by the end of your first semester, you will have calves of steel).
