Nothing was broken inside.

I was at home waiting for the box to come, just blow the horn next time.

Damn the box said Glass on it.

4. Speaking as a shipping professional..
UPS is absolute shit. If you want your package to get destroyed or lost, ship it UPS. I once had to ship a flight management computer for an Airbus A340 from Federal Way, Washington to Honeywell in Renton Washington (about 15 miles). These units cost around $250,000 new (ours was going in for recert, was worth about half that).. it ended up being delivered to an Amway billionaire named Dexter Yeager in North friggin' Carolina. And UPS did almost NOTHING to get it back.. I finally had to call a courier in Charlotte to go out to the guy's compound and talk to the guard who informed them that they had forwarded it to the guy's maintenance hangar in Florida.. they got me the phone number and I called and had the guy FedEx it back to me.

6. The computer had a trip.
The neighbor down the street had a new laptop tossed over the fence, the gate was not locked and left slightly opened.

The laptop had to be returned for a new one, not shipped UPS.

8. Hehe. yeah.. I rememebr talking to the UPS people on the phone..
Me: "I'm trying to find out the status of my shipment"
Them: "Well sir, we have a tracer on it. Well know something within 7 business days"
Me: "Well, I have the address and name it was delivered to.. is there anything you can do with that?"
Them: "No sir.. we have a tracer on it."
Me: "Great, but if you can't get it back for me, then what?"
Them: "We have up to $50,000 insurance to cover it"
Me: "OK.. but that's only about half of what it's worth.. and, since it costs as much as some houses, if it doesn't get back here, it'll be my job on the line.."
Them: "well, we have a tracer on it.. try back in 7 business days"
Me: "*slaps forehead, then jumps online and starts acting like Columbo"

About as bad as the idiots at DHL who used to try to enforce duties on the ovens and coffeemakers we imported. (Commercial aircraft parts are duty exempt)
Me: "Where's my shipment?"
Them: "It is on hold in our warehouse pending duty payment"
Me: "Um, if you look at the paperwork, you'll see by it's 'Schedule B' number, it is a commercial aircraft part, and therefore duty exempt."
Them: "Sir, the paperwork says it is a coffee maker"
Me: "have you ever flown?"
Them: "Yes sir."
Me: "Did the flight attendants serve coffee?"
Them: "well of course sir"
Me: "do you suppose the coffee fairy delivered it to them, or do you think they may have had a coffee maker on board? Tell you what.. go out to the warehouse, open the box up and fix yourself a pot of coffee with it.. if you can do that, then I'll admit it's not an aircraft part and pay whatever duty you'd like to impose" (The ovens and coffee makers on airplanes have vastly different plugs.. you'd have to be a master electrician to be able to wire one up to work on a regular outlet)

9. I work in a warehouse where we have packages delivered, many in bad shape.
What do they do to the packages in route, play football with them.

I know how you feel, I had to track down a few packages myself.

You have a great story.

I am glad everything turned out OK.

Some of the people I talk to at UPS are not very smart, tracking down a box should not be that hard.

nail the ***ker as well.

The delivery person was not just being unprofessional, but downright discourteous, with disregard for packages to be delivered. Not thrown like footballs.

(On edit: Clarified the bleeped word by adding an extra letter. Isn't "Wheel of Fortune" nowhere near as exciting?)

I am getting a little tired of boxes thrown over the fence, I was at home waiting in the front room.

Come Monday I am making a few phone calls.

19. I was lucky in the company packed the box so well.
I hear that, we have several boxes come in so damaged that the contents are useless.

Getting UPS to pay for damage is something else.

It didn't use to be this way, I remember good service not that long ago.

17. That happened to me twice. A large crystal lamp
It was shattered into a zillion pieces on the grass, sidewalk, etc. Pieces were so small they were coming out of the cracks in the box. Oh and it was marked very clearly: "fragile" and "glass" all over the box.

It is getting so I hate order anything online anymore.

We had a UPS guy who would put the package in our large country mailbox or leave it with a neighbor.

He was good.

27. I ordered it from a large dept store.
It happened twice, same item. Each time I dragged this huge box with slivers of crystal to the local suburban store and showed them. I said can't you just have it delivered to this store and I'll pick it up? No. Finally the third time it came in one piece.

31. Glad you did get your package, only took 3 times.
I wonder what is causing this crap to happen, low pay, to much to deliver or both.

I did deliver flowers at one time, that was a hard job.

The flowers had to be fresh, so I do understand the job.

36. I agree.
We have all the companies deliver to the warehouse and they are on the run.

I remember my job with the flowers, you didn't stay at one place long.

I lasted longer then most, the job would burn you out.

Summer was the worst, had to start early even with AC.

Sometime I had to eat lunch on the job, no time to stop to eat.

I still took pride in my job.

18. Was it UPS or UPS Ground?
UPS Ground is comprised of independent contractors. Either way the UPS website probably has a number or email address for you to report this. It's just not acceptable.

The only company worse than UPS is fucking DHL. I've never had a package from DHL that didn't look like Rush Limbaugh sat on it.

26. another UPS annoyance- sig reqd for low-value shipment
I find it irritating when the company at the other end tells UPS a signature
is required despite my request to skip one. I'm often at work when UPS comes,
so I end up driving to get my stuff 3-7 days later. Seems like they could
take a digital photo of the box by my front door and use that to prove they
delivered, as long as I approve?!

At least FedX is open late *and* will let me pick up the package
the same night after the 1st attempt; w/UPS you have to let them
try three times, then they hold the package at your local UPS hub
for a few days w/in which u can pick it up.

I hadn't had a signature required in a long time, the UPS guy would just leave the package in the mailbox or with a neighbor.

In busy season, some of the truckers actually threw stuff on the lawns breaking the furniture. Why those jerks didn't get fired, I don't know. You talk to the claim people who worked there and they say move the stuff yourself with family and friends.

Yeah, it would cost the company thousands to settle some of these "bad moves." A tip, if you ever do hire a mover, sign the contract with replacement cost insurance. It'll cost more but will be well worth it because you never know if you will get a careless trucker.

Bad move is right, thousands of dollars.

I had to deal with several broken laptops that were worth about $20,000 and were special orders.

The boxes looked like someone just played football with them, and I was suppose to sign for the boxes on my end.

I don't think so.

41. Of all the companies I have done business with over the years,
UPS ranks as the most disorganized and the most uncaring. No care is given to anything that needs special handling, packages left in plain sight a few feet from the street. These boxes are clearly marked and obviously labeled....guess what is in a box labeled Gateway...they don't care, and you, the customer are the on who is inconvenienced.
