Dear God, I can't get the scream out of my head
The Wilhelm Scream. We all know what it is. It's been in Star Wars, King Kong, Indiana Jones, and other movies as a stock sound effect.

A few months ago, I learned what it was. I think I read about it on Wikipedia, probably in an article about Star Wars.

And now I cannot escape it. I was watching the remake of King Kong a few weeks ago, and sonofabitch, there is was when a sailor got tossed off of a cliff by a dinosaur.

For a two-month period, my son LOVED Madagascar and we would watch is once or twice a weekend. And there it was when the animals were climbing the escalators in Grand Central Station.

And now, three hours ago, I had The Fifth Element on the TV as background. And I thought I heard the Scream. Quickly, I checked Wikipedia, found the List of media using the Wilhelm scream did not include The Fifth Element, and added that critical bit of information.

Then, to make myself even lamer, I watched it again, just to make sure I did, in fact, hear a Wilhelm scream when the phone booth blew up.

Oh, the things I do for the integrity of public knowledge!

So, now I have "Wilhelm Scream-dar". How absolutely lame is that?

I'm going to see "Live Free or Die Hard" next week when it comes out, and I'll bet if there's one in the movie, I'll find it.

<sigh>
