Who do you think dies in the last Harry Potter book???
JK has said that two characters die. For my money, I am thinking Hagrid and Neville.

I heard one of the heads of Scholastic read the book and balled like a baby at the end... Can't wait for the book!! So close now!!

1. My theory is a SPOILER.
Snape...

and Dumbledore.

You read that right. I don't think he's dead yet. :-)

3. Hmmm
That last bit is a verrrrrrrrry interesting theory.
You could well be right.

Right now at least, I think he IS dead- but can come back, much like Obi Wan.
But maybe I should change my 2 deaths to Snape & Neville.

For some reason, I really feel Neville will die.

5. Re-read what Dumbledore says to Draco
Specifically, how he can hide Draco should he decide not to kill Dumbledore. I think the clues are in that offer.

12. And book one, Snape says "I can put a stopper in death"
And no one, after Hagrid "moved" Dumbledore's body from the bottom of the tower, ever sees the body. When Hagrid brings the body in at the funeral, it's all wrapped up.

Now, possibly, that WAS Dumbledore's body, to be reanimated later, but I think his body was moved outside of Hogwarts.

29. Well the prophecy could equally apply to Harry or Neville.
Both meet the criteria set out in the prophecy, which goes on to say that either Voldemort or the hero of the prophecy must die. I think Voldemort will kill Neville, thereby fulfilling the prophecy, and freeing Harry's destiny. What Harry then decides to do will be up to him (and will no doubt end with the death of Voldemort).

9. Voldemort and Dumbledore and James Bond
I, too, do not believe that Dumbledore is actually dead; but he will be by the end of the next book.

And yes, that's right - I also think that, since the muggle Prime Minister knows what's happening, he assigns MI6 to assign James Bond to help out, and he is finally killed in action saving the world.

tied to Voldemort. Whether or not that means that Harry will die is up in the air. Maybe it means that if Voldemort dies, Harry lives, or vice versa. (Remember, JK has been definite all along that there would be only seven books. If she kills off Harry, no more Harry Potter books. Except, perhaps, he and Dumbledore would become two more of Hogwarts' resident ghosts...)

I'm not speculating any more than that.

on edit: typo and puncuation

I have this weird ritual of re-reading the HP series right before the new book comes out but I finished too early this time and now I have to wait a whole freakin' month to find out what happens. :D

I hope it's not Ginny or Ron...I like Mrs Weasly too much for something like that to happen. Obviously I don't want HP or Hermione to die either. If Neville is going to die, may he get the chance to avenge his parents by killing Bellatrix Lestrange first.

As much as I hope it's just Voldermort and Snape who go, I doubt this is the case...especially if a Scholastic person is crying at the end. I have already endured 2 major influences in Potter's life being killed so I assume this next book is going to be far more painful than the last two.

You know what would be cool? Prequels to the HP series. It would be fun to read more about how Harry's parents fell in love and how exactly Voldermort rose to power.

ps: here's a horrible video of a guy ruining the last HP book, Order of the Phoenix, by yelling out the ending to people waiting outside of the bookstore: http://gprime.net/video.php/pottercrash

15. Our local radio said that the guy who supposedly hacked into the computer
said that one of the dead will be:

**possible spoiler space***

Hermiene...I can't remember the other name but the radio guy said it would be "2 people close to Harry"...he told listeners not wanting to know any spoilers to turn the radio down for 20 seconds. Also said that HP officials didn't issue an outright denial specific to the hacker's info, just that there is, overall, alot of misinformation floating around.

17. A LOT of people...
At the very least:

Voldemort, Pettigrew, Bellatrix, Grayback, and Draco (and/or another Malfoy) on the "bad" side.... plus about 10 lesser-known Death Eaters are going to die.

Snape on whatever side he's working for is a goner.

Since we've got 5-6 Death Eaters dying, I think it needs to be balanced out.

Hate to say it, but there are TOO MANY GOOD PEOPLE. WAY too many for some of them not to die. It's a matter of canon that the last war was a BLOODBATH for the good side.

I think at least one Weasley is going to die. At least. There are SO many of them. Molly, Arthur, Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. Plus Fleur. That's a LOT of potential heartache there, especially since most of them have strong back stories. Charlie's the only one we haven't really met yet.

In the Order, I'm placing Lupin, Tonks, and Mad-eye Moody HIGH on the list. Particularly Lupin. He's got to go for Grayback, and he's the only one left with a really strong vendetta against Pettigrew. He would have killed Pettigrew if Harry hadn't stopped him. They're the only two marauders left.

Of the teachers, the only one popping right up on the list is Hagrid.

And of the students... we've got Harry, Ron (again), Hermione, Ginny (again), Neville, Luna, the other Gryffindors, and the other members of the DA. There would be some rough losses there.

I'm voting for Bill, Percy, Lupin, Tonks, Hagrid, and one of the students. And Snape.

Man, Lupin's my favorite... :(

Well, him and Snape

19. Two out of three of the big three
Voldemort takes over either Harry or Hermeione, they get fighting with each other and Ron gets caught in the crossfire. Whoever is not taken over by Voldemort kills Voldemort and whomever he's taken over.

I'm betting Hermeione is left standing. She is the best wizard of the three.

23. Think one of them will be Snape....BUT
...it will turn out that Snape is kind of a tragic hero.

The Unbreakable Vow put him in an impossible position...it was him or Dumbledore- and I'm pretty sure that Albus knew about this.

The "Severus- please!" plea that Dumbledore makes right before Snape hits him with the Avada Kedavra could be interpreted so many ways...:dilemma:

24. I have NO doubt that Dumbledore knew what Snape had to do.
There's no way that Rowling would allow him to become a victim of betrayal. That just wouldn't happen. A man like Dumbledore *has* to die a hero, or it seriously compromises the story. Dying so that Draco has a chance to live and redeem himself is heroic enough, and makes perfect sense considering Dumbledore's nature and abilities.

27. I think Snape is a hero already
He's not a nice guy, but he is a GOOD guy, and has already done stuff to protect people he doesn't like (ie Harry), put his life on the line, and been extremely loyal.

I think he's being a double agent/mole on Dumbledore and the Order's orders.

36. My nominees for dirt nap:
Voldy-thing, Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange and Dolores Umbridge.

Yeah, I know Umbridge isn't a Death Eater, but I swear I hate her more than "You-Know-Who". She didn't just want Harry dead, she wanted him KISSED! She's pure evil.

On our side, I can't think of anybody I'm willing to sacrifice. I'm very nervous.

I really don't think Rowling will kill off any of the trio, RW, HG, & HP. These are children's books, after all. And I would seriously be concerned that lunatic fans might do something bad.

Hagrid? Who would keep Grawp in line?

I could see Hedwig or Crookshanks. Killing beloved pets is a staple of children's literature.
