Please - good vibes for Simba

The pet sitter dropped him off at the vet, and the vet called me a while ago to tell me Simba is in "very serious condition" and so weak he can hardly stand. He only weighs 4.7 lbs now. (He hasn't been eating much for a month now despite all attempts to get him to eat). The vet started him on IV fluids and catheterized him, and he'll have to be hospitalized for a few days. I'm in California and can't go home until Saturday. We're going to the Giants game this afternoon and I'll call from there for an update.

I'm so upset that I'm shaking, not to mention crying my eyes out. Please send good vibes, prayers, whatever for little Simba. He's our little lap cat and the most affectionate cat we've ever known.

On a side note, Simba is a very handsome fella. I just want to reach through my computer screen and pet him! And lap kitties are the best, aren't they? :)

Mr. DTBK is home and has been apprised of the situation. He's been trying so hard to get Simba to eat over the last three weeks that I've been in California. Simba's lab work hasn't been too abnormal aside from a mildly elevated BUN (kidney function value). His thyroid and liver panels were normal three weeks ago and have been over the past several years. We really don't know what's going on with him. I hope he will start to improve shortly - I won't be able to see him until Monday because I don't get home until Saturday night. This hurts so much!

Talked to the vet twice today. Simba ate 3/4 can of food yesterday, but hasn't been very interested in eating thus far this morning (at least of a few hours ago). He has been urinating and defecating appropriately. He's still weak and is still receiving fluids, antibiotics and an appetite stimulant. If he doesn't eat well today, the vet will start him on steroids later today. I just called to discuss x-rays, ultrasound, etc. because we still don't have a diagnosis. He'll do x-rays to see if there's anything suggestive. He wants to keep him overnight again and see how he's doing tomorrow. In the meantime I'm scheduled to arrive in Dallas Saturday night.

Options are to put him to sleep (not ready to do that yet if he's not suffering), exploratory surgery (not a good candidate in his current weakened state), referral to internist for ultrasound ($$$ and what's the point?) and steroids to increase appetite and diminish inflammation. We opted for the steroids for now. They may not work at all, but we chose the most attractive of a very bleak set of alternatives. Mr. DTBK is in complete denial that Simba could possibly be this ill and refused to even consider euthanasia. So, the vet started him on steroids today and will keep him overnight again. At least he ate and drank today and was sitting up - apparently yesterday he was so weak he could hardly lift his head. My poor sweet little love.

I'm trying not to cry my eyes out, but it's so difficult. I just want to get home to Texas, get him home and give him all the love I have to give.

I'm fortunate to share space with a couple of cats, and they are wonderful. It has always hurt horribly to see one in distress, and we still mourn for those we have lost. Hang in there ...

I came out here when my sister called and told me her husband was in the ICU. He's been fighting cancer valiantly for almost 10 years and developed aspiration pneumonia several weeks ago. He's doing much better now, thank God, but who knows what the future will bring? I just pray he can do as well as he's doing (if not even better) for years to come.

I wish I had something to say to make you feel better, but all I can say is... :hug:
