Why won't that 'mixed animal' thread die?
It doesn't bother me; I'm not complaining. I just don't get why THAT thread has so much staying power...

4. Because
Oscar resonates with the subconscious ephemera of a soulless universe. He offers hope and grandeur to a morally starved world.

Plus, we all wanna know what he's building in the attic so we know whether to stock up on canned goods.

8. I'm hooked on Oscar.
He's given new meaning to my life. Take a little Oscar as an antidote to the daily weenie W - and you'll know what I mean.

Oscar Forever!

If you're as lucky as I've been - and actually glimpsed Oscar - skimming the bay in a kayak being oared by a Porpoise wearing a tam o'shanter and singing Volare - or fashioning yukes out of liptis trees on the beach at Windy Cove...you'd understand why Oscar is essential.

And, I'm not certain it's related - but I did notice that Dick Cheney looked especially pale in a Dracula sort of way tonight, sitting on that dais behind the bot-who-would-be-king -and it's my thought that old Sneero might have had a dream encounter with Oscar in which he was shown his future...matted in oil, tangled and dirty, in a remote forest with no one to love or inherit him. Oh, maybe a moment or two...four posts maybe?{P}
No..Oscar is a testament to what we can be...aspire to...what we lose sight of when life becomes such a chore... the spirit that cannot be broken...Oscar is what we need to remember to be...

11. I think it's because of the storytelling skills of the author.......
He/she writes really well......makes it almost believable.

Almost.

12. Because it's there.
No, really, because it's a life-affirming story, it's light-hearted without being cloying, absorbing if you enjoy absurdism, and is a invaluable tonic to the chewing-on-foil unpleasantness that is GD2004.

I was as delighted to find the Oscar story as I was to stumble upon "Rushmore" in the theatres in 1998. It gives me the same warmth, the same benevolent oddness as Phil Austin's Blog (go check it out!) Is there a single harsh word in that thread?

In short, Oscar's thread is the perfect escape from the drudgery and sadness that is my life. I can't be unhappy reading about Oscar.
