Great performances in terrible movies

Several years ago I saw a movie called Playing By Heart. It starred Sean Connery, Gena Rowlands, Madeline Stowe and Dennis Quiad. It was boring and trite, but one performance was absolutely incredible.

There was a young woman who at first I thought was grating, but by the end of the movie I was in love with her, after a moving and heartbreaking performance. I understand why Angelina Jolie became a star.

Have you ever seen a movie in which the only good thing was one incredibly award-worthy performance?

there is an incredibly tender scene between Shelly Winters and Jack Albertson in the "The Poseidon Adventure" The freakin' Poseidon Adventure!

Sean Penn in "Carlito's Way"
Holly Hunter in "Copycat"
