What I did over 4th of July weekend. (Major Dial-up warning)
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 08:54 PM by GOPisEvil
So, I arrived in lovely central Washington for a fun-filled time with my lovely girlfriend. We really didn't have any plans - or so I thought! We have actually had very little time to sit and relax. First on the agenda was a trip to the Gorge Amphitheater for the Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic. I've lived in Texas for the past 27 years, and I had to come to WA to go to my first picnic. Here are some assorted photos of our day there. Edit - because Madrone kicks so much ass, we were SECOND ROW CENTER! We could almost reach out and touch the artists!

Here is a shot of the venue itself. Gorgeous!

First up, Amos Lee. Very talented. Even though he was playing for a small crowd, he was really good and engaging.

Next up were Drive-By Truckers! These guys (and lady) never disappoint!

Following DBT were The Old 97s from Dallas. They rocked out!

After them, Son Volt showed up and I got to re-visit my man-crush on Jay Farrar.

Finally, the star of the show - WILLIE! He was terrific!!

After recovering from THAT all-day affair, we decided to head up to beautiful Mt. Rainier.

For those unfamiliar with Washington's license plates. ;)

Here are Madrone and I enjoying the snow (!!!) while the mountain looms over us.

On the way home, we almost literally ran into this big guy. We chased him up a dirt road, and this is the only picture I could snap off before he ran off.

After all of that, some of us were plum wore out. :hi:

2. From what I hear it's the top-rated outdoor venue in the country.
I have to agree. Beautiful setting and a great place to watch a show.

DS1 has outdone himself.

All in all, I'd rather get attacked by the elk, though. The pain wouldn't last as long. :D

16. Wow. What a wonderful and busy weekend.
I missed a DU trip to see Sicko on Saturday, and then I worked on Sunday. :(

This weekend makes up for it though. :)

19. You have to find a reason to go!
It's lovely, and easy to get to even though it is in the middle of nowhere.
