What mixes with Amaretto?
I have a huge bottle of Amaretto and am becoming desperate enough to drink it. Here's the thing- I don't know how to drink it. Just with ice? Mix it? I have no sour mix, and Amaretto sour is the only thing I've heard of. Is it okay to drink it plain? Unless it mixes with Diet Mountain Dew, I got nothing.

What do you think?

5. Pour it over vanilla ice cream, or mix it with chocolate milk and serve over ice.
It goes best with creamy, milky things, like canned evaporated milk, half-and-half, etc. It also blends well with Kahlua. Or if you're a coffee drinker, try it with that. But I wouldn't mix it with fruit flavors, because they will overwhelm it.

20. My favorite liqueur for use with ice cream has got to be Chambord...
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 11:02 AM by SteppingRazor
as far as I'm concerned, that stuff serves as an ice cream topping better than it does a drink.

8. one more question...
Can liquor go bad? My husband is now telling me the Amaretto is too old to drink and "probably rancid." Can that happen? Pff, he's just a party pooper.

9. I have a bottle of Kahlua that I bought 19 years ago, and I still drink it.
The alcohol preserves it. Why has it been here so long? I rarely drink, and it's a bottle shaped like some kind of mayan figurine thing. It's more of a collector's item. But I recently drank some even though I have had that bottle for 19 years, and nothing bad happened. However it doesn't seem to have the full flavor it once did. Maybe some of the essential oils of the coffee and vanilla have evaporated out of it.

10. Your Amaretto will be fine.
Some things, such as spumante, will degrade with age.

Amaretto does not go rancid.

19. Probably the two most popular cocktails featuring amaretto are the Amaretto Sour and ...
the Screaming Orgasm.

Amaretto Sour
2 oz. amaretto
a couple splashes sweet-and-sour mix.
Shake over ice, strain into glass
Garnish with orange and cherry, preferably speared together with a tiny umbrella :)

Screaming Orgasm
1 oz. amaretto
1 oz. Bailey's Irish cream
1 oz. vodka
stir together, serve over ice
(this is also made witgh Kahlua instead of amaretto, but I prefer the amaretto method)

Cheers! :toast:

Mix it straight up, then down it. After 3 of them in a 5 minute span, you'll be happy with amaretto.
