Thieves Steal 4,800 Golf Balls From Driving Range
<snip>

Pssst, buddy. Wanna buy a golf ball? How about several thousand?

That’s what Jeff Johnson thinks the thief or thieves will try to do with nearly 4,800 golf balls stolen overnight Sunday from a Bonner Springs course’s driving range.

“That or they are some really bad golfers who need some range balls to practice with — a lot to practice with,” said a perplexed Johnson, the head golf professional at Sunflower Hills Golf Course.

Johnson discovered the theft Monday morning when he went down to set up the driving range and noticed that there were no golf balls in the landing area.

But there were tire tracks on the grass leading to the course’s No. 3 tee, where someone had pulled back slats in a fence and driven through.

Workers had collected some golf balls earlier Sunday evening, but it was a busy night and a lot of balls were left on the range, Johnson said.
