Has gas jumped in price for you today?
I didn't fuel up this morning but they are talking about a dime increase on the local news. That would put us up to anywhere from $3 a gallon to $3.12 a gallon, depending on how close you get to the city.

8. And we're all tired of it.
It gets old after awhile. Some of us walk and bike as often as possible but still need to have vehicles to get around.

Without a car I couldn't take my daughter to her specialist, I couldn't get to work, I couldn't visit any family and I couldn't keep volunteering to clean up abandoned cemeteries. (Most have been way out in the country. And no, my town has no public transportation.)

but it wouldn't do me much good right now with a kid under 10.

I'd love to have a scooter but I can ride it only in the city limits-I couldn't even get it to the Walmart, which is technically outside of the city.

I have lived there since 1990, went for trade school and got married and stuck there :P

I work in Oklahoma City, so I am in OKC during the week and home to Tulsa on the weekends now.

It depends on what part of town they land in as far as grocer, butcher, markets, etc. etc. goes. As for entertainment, they need to come out and see my band perform on the weekends :P

seriously, if they need help, I'll be happy to hook them up as much as I can :)

34. Lighten up, I'm just trying to help
Whenever cycling gets mentioned on this site people swear that they only drive when it's absolutely positively required. The reality is that 40 percent of all car trips are two miles or less. I guess the people making those trips must not be members of this site.

If people drove less then the price of gas would go down and we'd all be happy. I realize that people rarely change their behavior based on Internet message board posts but it never hurts to try.

I choose not to have children and I choose to live close to the things I need. That doesn't make me a better person. It just means that I pay about as much attention to gas prices as I do to the astrology columns in the newspaper: it has virtually no effect on my life.

38. Well, you've given me this same lecture in the past.
It's old and tired.

We've discussed this before: I walk to get all my groceries, I walk for any entertainment. In no way is it my fault that most new development in my area is on the highway and it's illegal to either walk or bike on the highway.

Quite a few on here have had the "I'm a superior being because I chose not to have children and I ride a bike everywhere" lecture from you. I know-I've had a number of messages in my inbox about it. Wasteful driving is wrong but you also need to realize that some of us have to drive.

As to gas prices-it DOES have an effect on your life. Think about it. The corn, tomatoes, etc in the supermarket in your region might be from Kansas. I could bet the wheat used to make flour for your bread and baked goods is from this area. If gas goes up here, the price of groceries WILL go up there. The price of repair kits for the tires for your bike will go up, the price of clothing will go up, the price of entertainment will go up.

You only see right in front of you. If the price of gas goes up then the price of nearly everything else goes up because of delivery costs.

Prices are up about 20-25 cents. They are using the flooding of a refinery in Coffeyvile KS as the excuse here. The damn thing dumped oil in neighborhoods up there

They KNEW the flood was coming and did nothing, had they shut it down and buttoned up until the flood receded, we might not be having these problems. :grr:

yeah, the town is in deep doo-doo
but Goldman Sachs, who owns the refinery may be in deeper before it is all over, I think there is going to be a class-action lawsuit over this, and GS had the company on the market, I bet they take a bath on it now.

30. If I recall correctly
Oolagah Lake is part of the supply, and the rest comes from somewhere else, so we may not be that bad off, especially with all the flooding and continuing rain diluting the spill. I hope we are not affected too badly in any case, I have an 18 month old daughter that has to at least bathe with the water.

18. It has been fluctuating here (Indiana)
A few days ago, it was $2.99 and then dropped to $2.94. Last night, I saw the station near my apartment raise the price to $3.05. Oy!

When we were in St. Louis, it was $2.69 all over the area and this little town is higher than a major city?!

that it also goes DOWN much more slowly or much later than other areas.

People are talking in this thread about prices jumping back up to over 3 dollars, but it hasn't gotten UNDER three dollars here until yesterday, and most stations are still over 3 dollars.
