Kansas Shoppers Step Over, Ignore Stabbed Woman As She Dies
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 03:34 PM by Drunken Irishman
Not sure if this was posted, but I think it should be posted again if so. This is one of the most astonishingly horrendous event I've ever heard.

I hope every person that refused to help this woman is charged with negligent homicide, or something similar.

1. Hard to have much faith in humanity when you read stuff like that.
What the hell is wrong with people?

3. Kansas? The God fearing creation believing state?!!
And what the hell is this load of crap:

Psychologist Dr. Molly Allen says a phenomenon called group think may have taken over.

"That's where if somebody doesn't step in to render assistance, then the entire group might get the message that for some reason it's not okay to render assistance or that this is less than an emergency," Allen said.

B F'ing S on that view. More like, I have to shop, don't have time to help anyone on the floor dying. And that person who took her picture....!!

Who the hell stabbed her, would it be on the video they're not releasing and what store was it?

8. It may not be right but the phenomenon of groupthink is real
We've all seen it, most noticably in the Bush administration where people simply follow along and allow themselves to be led. And not just those who agree but those who don't - afraid to say anything for fear of seeming "different" or "out of step" or "unpatriotic." Ring a bell?

I've seen it in other situations and I'm sure you have, too. I was working on a road construction job at one time and we had a section blocked off that we were in the process of rebuilding. It was a blast zone, the road could barely be called that and there were large barriers and arrows and cones and everything else blocking it off and directing traffic along a detour. It was as obvious as you can make something like that and even included flaggers who were sort of redundant because there was only one way to go.

Even so, one day a little old lady drove right past the flagger who tried desperately to stop her, zigzagged between two barriers and began bumping along this dirt track past backhoes and loaders and you name it. AND EVERY CAR BEHIND HER FOLLOWED.

Groupthink. It's real, it happens. It sucks that it does but people are like sheep. And the more there are together, the more likely no one else will stop because they assume someone else will.

9. um yeah...

now I'm going go read the rest of your post...I just read the heading.

"Groupthink. It's real, it happens. It sucks that it does but people are like sheep. And the more there are together, the more likely no one else will stop because they assume someone else will."

Or as I like to say, the bigger the clump, the smaller the amount of brain power, at least in some circumstances.

4. It's sad and sick that people can't be bothered to help a stranger.

It's the Kitty Genovese lesson all over again. If you know somebody needs help at the very least call the police, regardless of what anyone else is or isn't doing. Do something.

5. My work partener used to work security here

in Las Vegas. He was present for a couple of lethal shootings in casinos (took one shooter down to the ground, for that matter). In one incident a woman was killed. People around her kept playing the slot machines. Very predictable, that. And the complained -- some of them -- about having to move to allow paramedics and others access to the scene. Others gathered around and took photos of the dead (or dying) woman, whose dress was up around her waist and who was wearing no panties. Just hearing this crap makes me sick...a lot of people on this planet are utter scum. Certainly, I think the prevailing attitudes and influences in the US encourage this kind of behavior, though it'll always be true that many people are simply scum.

The only bright point in this Vegas incident was that the security officers confiscated the cameras -- against much protest from the f***knuckles who were photographing this poor woman -- and they restrained them: Metro police arrived quickly and arrested them all. I forget the charge, but even though all they did was take pictures I'd be tempted to lay anything I could, and the most harsh versions thereof, on these coprophages.

10. Yes, everyone that stepped over her
needs jail time.

If I am not mistaken the Supreme Court rules that we as citizens have a DUTY to report a crime and render assistance, even if that assistance is as simple as calling 911 for crying out loud.
