Doug Marlette is dead

I wish this was a joke but it's not
Car crash this morning in Mississipi

I'm rather stunned.

I loved the guy's cartoons and daily strips

I also really enjoyed his novel the Bridge

I met him once when he spoke at a film festival. We talked a little while afterwards and he was a genuinely nice, decent guy

Sigh

He lived in the town just a few minutes from here in Hillsborough NC.

I don't recall if he was a UNC alum but I remember reading a few articles about him in the Daily Tar Heel. That's so sad.. as a car-crash survivor I know how quickly everything can be taken away, and boy I feel for his family, friends, and fans.
