I'm really starting to bond with our new puppy.
I brought Brodie home about 2 months ago, and was happy I did. he's a sweet little guy, and full of energy, etc. . We have another dog--- Grover--- but Grover has always been 'Paddy's dog', realistically. He likes me well enough, but we've just never gotten to the 'You're my human' stage.

It's different with Brodie, for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm 'first' in the sense that I was the one who actually rescued him and his sister, or something, but when I come home now it's Brodie who makes all of the ultra-happy "Hi, dad!" jumps and leaps and kisses, etc.; actually, he won't leave me alone until I pick him up and hold him and let him lick my face while I rub his little tummy. His reaction to ME is exactly what Grover's reaction is to Paddy.

I think I've been 'chosen'. :)

Give him a hug for all of us! Brodie, you're gonna be just fine in your new home-- no doubt!

2. Its a special feeling isn't it when you know you are THEIR choice!
I love to walk my pup to the neighborhood stores and markets, briefly tying her just outside while I pop in. It never fails that others will walk by and try to get her attention-- which is firmly fixed on that store's doors--looking for me. Then, her entire countenance and body language changes dramatically when she gets a glimpse of me coming back out. It always amuses folks watching her. She's her Mamma's girl, alright!

5. That's really nice.
Watch it no one steals her tied up outside.

6. Yes, I'm very paranoid about that...Even though she's
a mixed breed and probably not too tempting for most individuals, there are folks who ride around collecting dogs, I know.

If I can't see her from within the store, I'll actually use a tiny lock to secure her collar on her and then again to the leash and the post or bike rack. While these little locks would take nothing to break, I figure most people wouldn't want to risk approaching a strange dog to clip three locks with others potentially watching.

7. We never let them out without supervision.
There's been a rash of 'dognapping' locally, and we won't take the chance. :)

8. Where are you? I heard there were these problems in OR, I think...
I'm actually paranoid walking her through some parks, since there have been anti-dog nuts who have threatened to toss poisoned meat or other foods under bushes for them to find. It hasn't happened yet in Denver, to my knowledge, but I do keep a close eye on her.

Near my home, you can generally find a trustworthy elderly or other person sitting outside taking a rest, that will be happy to keep and eye on them, while you pop into Starbucks, or wherever. I've always found that these "volunteers" take the "job" very seriously--- almost more vigilantly than me! Plus, they'll usually sit there and talk to her, which she likes.

10. The love of a companion animal
is one of the greatest and purest joys in life.

I don't know how I got along in life as long as I did without seeing those sweet little eyes 'come to get me.'

12. He's curled up in my lap, as I type.
He's had his supper and his 'potty time', so he should be good for the night. It sorta made me feel all warm and fuzzy when he gave this DEEP sigh and licked my hand, right before he drifted off to sleep. :)
