Man Finds Corpse In Car - Takes It To ATM, Shopping

N. WHITEHALL TWP. | Police say a 45-year-old man came upon a dead man in a car then drove away with the corpse in the vehicle so he could try to use the dead man's ATM card.

Pennsylvania State Police at Bethlehem said Dennis James Laslo, 45, no address given, was initially arrested Saturday for attempting to steal a purse from a 28-year-old Schnecksville woman who was shopping at the Kings IGA supermarket on Route 873.

In the course of the investigation, police discovered the body of Maynard Samuel Anthony, 50, of Allentown, in a pickup truck in the parking lot. The body was in the early stages of decomposition, police said. Officials did not release a cause and manner of death.

Further investigation revealed that earlier Saturday Laslo had found Anthony dead in the vehicle in the area of Hamilton Street and American Parkway in Allentown. Laslo drove the car to an Allentown bank in an attempt to use Anthony's ATM card to withdraw cash, police said. He then allegedly drove the car to the supermarket lot.

Laslo was charged with abuse of a corpse, theft and attempted theft. He was committed to Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.
