I went to Ikea (probably a bad idea to begin with :)) to check out the bookcase measurements and the bookcase doors, etc. I have three in the oak with glass doors and they look awesome but I've outgrown them and need more. I was hoping to get a combo of glass doors on top and solid doors on the bottom as a way to hide my junk.

The bad news was they were out of glass doors in oak and they're discontinuing the "Billy" line in oak. So, the book cases I wanted were $20 cheaper and the doors were $15 cheaper. So I decided I had to get them before they were gone. I "saved" $150. Now I just need to put the suckers together.

The daim torte was pretty good too.

I never could pass up dessert. The recipe is here:

(The Ikea version used almonds instead of hazelnuts.)

5. I love eating in their cafeteria!
It has such a great Euro vibe and lots of light. Plus where I live you can see the planes fly over as well if you sit outside...

3. Well really, anyone who can eat 800 tacos at Taco Bell could do the same.
Also, I love Ikea!

6. Advice: buy an electric screwdriver or two.
we bought two off-brand ES for $12 apiece at Home Despot. Best purchase we ever made. A single Black & Decker was $40.

We did floor-to-ceiling Ikea bookcases down a long hallway. There were more than 80 screws, as I recall. Carpal tunnel in action.

7. Great advice!
I use my electric drill. I can't imagine how badly my arms would ache if I didn't!

This will make 6 total Ikea bookcases in my "den." I need to treat the unfinished lower parts with polyurethane before I can assemble them (my two old cats have occasional "accidents -- that's another story!).
