Are you allowed in the Lounge if you don't care for cats?

I have always been a horse and dog person myself.

I have a little kitty at the barn named Aretha that is a good
mouser but I have no desire to take her home and have her
sit on my couch and eat my plants.

I don't hate cats. I just prefer them outdoors and eating mice.

I cannot help but notice the cat craze here in the Lounge
and was just wondering...

Will I be banned from the lounge for my lack of cat adoration?
Will I be ridiculed for my lack of reverence for the feline species?

Just asking.

5. Don't like them either
I don't think anyone in my family has ever had a cat. Lots of dogs, no cats. Horses are nice but I would hate to clean the litter box.

8. Nice try, faux-troll! You used the word "kitty" to describe your barn cat.
You used the "k" word, so your secret admiration for cats is showing!

11. I understand why a lot of people love their cats, but....
I'm not one of them. I have an ancient outdoor cat. He is neutered, well cared for, and has a safe environment. That is where he belongs. I enjoy kittens, but have no desire to add any more felines to the family.

I really, really love my dogs, though. I can't understand why anyone would have an outdoor dog. That is just so wrong, IMO.

14. Maybe, but I feel sorry for them.
What a miserable life it would be, tied to a doghouse. I suppose an enclosure would be OK, but not many people have those. I think if dogs could talk, they would tell us that they would rather be where their humans are.

13. and I don't understand why anyone
would want a dog. They are cute and all but I can't get past that dog breath smell, the crotch sniffing and the barking, and they all do it, even good dogs.

Neither pet is better than the other, they just complement the owner's personality. I, for one, will always be a cat person. That doesn't make be better or worse than anybody, it's just who I am.

hey Old Broad, welcome to the Lounge! :hi:

15. I didn't state or even imply that either animal was better than the other.
I was merely concurring with Old Broad's post.

And I certainly do not think a preference makes a person "better or worse" than anyone.

sigh....

:hi: :D I had all kinds of pets growing up---dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils, white mice, a baby squirrel that fell out of its nest and his mother wouldn't take him back, etc. I loved them all. However, if I'm going to have pets (and I am), they will be dogs. I like cats, but not enough to have one as a pet again. I'm a dog person, and I say let cat people have cats and dog people have dogs. :)

;-)

I don't think you have to like cats to be here (coming from someone who has 7). All I ask of you is that you are kind and gentle and respectful of other creatures. How close they are to your heart is no big deal, so long as you treat them with the dignity they all deserve.

How about that? Cool with you?

I'm a dog lover (I don't have any pets right now, and haven't for many years, but I'll take dogs over cats anyday) and feel about cats much as John Bickerson did:

BLANCHE BICKERSON'S DRIVING LESSON
(sound of hammering on metal)
Blanche: (calling out) John! John Bickerson!
John: (answering from garage) Wait a minute, Blanche.
Blanche: Come on out from under that car - I want to talk to you.
John: What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?
Blanche: Where's Nature Boy?
John: (pause) Who's Nature Boy?
Blanche: (using a you-know-very-well tone) The cat! I haven't seen him all
morning; I think he ran off.
John: He didn't run off; he's under the car with me.
Blanche: Where?
John: Right here.
Blanche: John, that black alley cat isn't ours; Nature Boy has a golden coat.
John: That's him - I've been petting him.
Blanche: You mean you've been wiping your hands on him.
John: Okay, so I've been wiping my hands on him; I couldn't find a rag.
Blanche: You oughta be ashamed of yourself! Look at that poor thing! It
looks like he fell into a tar pit.
John: Well, he had no business to come sniffin' around while I was drainin'
the oil. Put him in the washing machine.
Blanche: If you weren't a sane man, I'd really believe you want to do away
with him!
John: How can you say a thing like that?
Blanche: You don't fool me, John Bickerson. I know what happened to the
other cat we had.
John: What other cat?
Blanche: The big grey one, Joy Boy.
John: Joy Boy?
Blanche: You know, the one you said committed suicide after you caught him
in the liquor closet.
John: He *did* commit suicide, Blanche. Cats have been known to commit
suicide.
Blanche: They don't *hang* themselves!
John: He didn't hang himself. He got his neck tangled in a ball of string,
and I was trying to unloosen it when you walked in. Don't start makin'
me into a cat killer!
Blanche: You stop using Nature Boy for a grease rag.
