Maybe by midnight tonight, things will turn around.
I was just told that I won't be doing a wedding in August for a gay couple, a wedding I have been looking forward to, and which the couple asked me to put on my calendar last winter. They've decided to ask a same gender couple to do it, because, to quote one of the clergy who will officiate "we understand the struggles and challenges of being in a same-gender committed relationship." If we follow this logic, only married clergy can do any weddings. And maybe only parents should baptize babies. No, only babies should do it!! And dead people should do funerals--because they understand the experience.
I really like this couple and was looking forward to the honor of doing their wedding. They had originally asked me to do it and they certainly have every right to change their minds.
It's the reasoning that gets to me. Oh, well, I am qualified to do animal blessings. And pray over meals, because I do eat.
Thanks, as always, for letting me rant.
