From now on I am sitting in the back of the church on the floor.
It just seems the best way.

2. To atone for my sins. I am just so ashamed of myself.
But I feel like I have to go to church for my own sake and my mother's sake.

3. Elshiva, you need to get some serious help
Everyone on earth has sinned. Some more than others. Most of us have done things (lying, cheating, stealing, coveting, cowering.. whatever) we aren't proud of.
Continuing to beat yourself up over real or imagined wrongs isn't moving you forward.
You need to get some books on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
You think so negatively it just continues to snowball every day- ypu have to break the cycle.

Get the books!! REALLY!!

4. If you feel like you "have" to go to church, maybe you shouldn't?
Just a suggestion. I see by your signature that you're Episcopalian (sorry if that's wrong--I'm not the greatest w/ church insignia, being a heathen a/a), and probably fairly devotedly so. If church is bothering you, or if people in church are bothering you, I say you should take some time away from it. Spend time doing some "internal" and private spiritual reflection--reading the Bible, even just thinking about stuff. When you go back to church, you'll be that much stronger, able to stand up to people who give you a hard time (if that's the case) and keep your head high in general.

I personally never hold to the traditional atoning for sins business--everyone does wrong (many of us plenty), but there doesn't need to be serious punishment over it. Certainly don't beat yourself up.

:hi:

8. Amen Writing!!
You nailed what I was coming back to say to her.

Short of raping someone, murdering someone, purposely causing severe physical harm to someone or molesting a child- MOST sins are small and forgivable.
She needs to stop blowing things up so out of proportion. Negativity begets more negativity. With each day the black cloud grows as she puts more in to it.

Please Elshiva- get help!!

10. Thank you, WritingIsMyReligion,
I LOVE my church dearly, these people are family! However, even with a good family there tend to be some things that wear on other people's nerves. I'm...well....ugly...

I do enjoy reading the Bible and writing theology.

11. Did you read "Angela's Ashes?"
Or maybe the sequel?

He posits that there are two kinds of churchgoers: Those who were sober the night before, and thus sit in the front, and the alcoholic men who were drunk on Saturday night, and are thus sitting in the back of the church.

12. Stay away from churches
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 01:40 AM by TrogL
It's reached the point where you cannot find a church that isn't infested by RRR's.
