Second "X-Files" pic moving toward production
Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:34PM EDT

By Kimberly Nordyke

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The "X-Files" film sequel is heating up.

Co-star David Duchovny indicated Saturday during the Television Critics Association press tour that the film, which has been the subject of speculation for the past few years, is one step closer to becoming a reality.

"I'm supposed to see a script next week," Duchovny said at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, adding that creator Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the screenplay and that Carter is set to direct.

Duchovny also reiterated past remarks that he and "X-Files" co-star Gillian Anderson "are on board" the follow-up to the 1998 film and the series that ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002...

Whee! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

1. Tough Room
Well, I'm excited anyway. I miss the writing of Carter, Spotnick and company. ;)

2. That's interesting.. Chris hasn't been busy for a while, has he?
He might have a lot of new ideas and energy to put into it. That would be nice.

I was a big fan of The X-Files (and Millenium) but stopped watching halfway into the season with Robert Patrick. I really cared about Mulder's burden and quest, and Scully's crumbling scepticism and dynamic, and when that went, I couldn't identify as well, and wondered why I should care. So I stopped :( I don't even know how the series ended.

It wouldn't be the same without Charles Nelso Reilly, anyhoo.

Thanks for the post.

5. I stopped watching right around the time of the movie
It pissed me off that I would have to pay $7 to find out what was going to happen on a show I watched on tv.

6. You should rent it!
It's pretty much a stand-alone movie. It touched on some of the preceding season and transitioned properly into the following season. I dug it. It wasn't the greatest movie ever but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

7. Count yourself lucky.
Babylon 5 fans have watched two attempts at spinoffs die, and zero output on the air for a decade. Now that Joe is in the big leagues (always was to us, natch), he's using his influence to have new episodes made.

The caveat is that they are direct to DVD. $15.00 street for an hour of material. There should be more coming down the road.

Don't get me wrong. Like all B5 fanatics, I'm excited as hell. Just wanted to say that if you're an X-files fan, the movie, in a theatre, is better than we ever got, and is less expensive than the extension now available.
