1. I'm going to run out to the Italian Market for some bread and fresh mozzarella.
You grab some tomatoes and some of that basil. Caprese sandwiched for everyone! :9

3. I eat handfuls right off of the stalk
like an ancient dinosaur or something, but it's wonderful. I love big mouthfuls of fennel and cilantro, of which I have tons.

5. Are herbs for cooking high maintenance to grow?
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 06:37 PM by Inchworm
I do NOT have a green thumb. I just had a potted flower die.

Someone suggested I do an herb garden; since, I have some experience with herbs.

11. not at all
I always throw a handful of seeds into a big bucket of dirt to get them started, and then transfer them to regular ground when they are big enough. I think herbs are pretty easy to grow.

12. niiice broccoli!
I'm still a garden noob, but maybe someday I too can grow the broccoli!
I'm about to have way more tomatoes than I can use but not many are ripe yet.

I'm proud of the spinach and radishes I grew from seeds this time :7

13. pick them green
and let them ripen inside. Make sure you don't cut them from the vine though. Leave the little co-joining vine intact and let them ripen off the vine. You'll have a longer shelf life on them being fresh that way.

I have so many I have to can them, freeze them as tomato sauce, etc...

15. They were actually ready at
the beginning of June (Early Girls). As a matter of fact, most of the first harvest is played out already (grapes, tomatoes, potatoes, collard greens, yellow squash and zucchini). However, being as how we are in the great San Joaquin Valley, I'm getting ready to plant my SECOND summer crop (tomatoes, squash, okra, onions, cantaloupe and honeydew). Luckily, we're able to harvest something pretty much all year around.

I just canned Asian beans and fresh blackberries and am getting ready to can the last of my aunt's tomatoes.

Bon appetite, y'all.

LTH
