4. A CO2 fire extinguisher
will do it quicker than that, and a whole case at a time to boot. That's what we did when I was in the service and we were out in the field with no refrigeration :) :hide:

5. Why no one has yet invented, patented and marketed a "reverse microwave"
is beyond me. I have absolutely no use for a conventional microwave (for heating stuff up) but I would buy a reverse microwave (for instantly cooling a bottle or can of Coke, for instance) the minute it went on the market. Another kitchen appliance is the last thing I want or need, but I could find plenty of uses for small, well-designed "reverse microwave." :hi:

6. seriously, they've just recently invented something like that
its a freezer that works using sound waves. Ben and Jerry's has been looking into them for a couple years, I believe they have working models now.

7. But would it be safe to use?
I'm not even debating the whole radiation thing. I'm thinking of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Or if you're lucky enough to live somewhere where you can still get Coke in glass bottles, they have metal caps. If this turns a regular microwave into an arc welder, it would probably do the same to a "reverse microwave".

Though I agree, the concept itself is a great one. I thought of it myself a few years ago, but it didn't seem practical.

8. Years ago, some can manufacturer had actually made an aluminum can,
with a small co2 cartridge inside that released the co2 safely, when the tab of the can was opened, which then instantly cooled whatever beverage was inside. Good idea, but too expensive. The idea never materialized in the marketplace.

10. That was an innovation from Japan, wasn't it?
I remember hearing about it and instantly wishing it were available in the US. :)
