Well, this appears to be the end of the line - venting
We signed our bankruptcy papers Monday, and our lawyer is filing them today. We're going to lose the house, which means we'll have to give up the cats because we won't be able to find a place that'll let us have them all. We're looking to move to Canada because my family's there, but the s.o. is two nose hairs from jumping into the car and never coming back.

The s.o. has been unemployed since October, which actually helped us with the bankruptcy filing, but it's taken its toll. We're pretty sure it was our next door neighbors who broke our house and car windows 3 weeks ago, but without a witness or a confession, the cops won't do anything.

We have $ to eat, but barely. I'm about to go to work, but I've been physically ill because of all this, and I'll probably go throw up first. I can't function. If I could, I'd check myself into a loony bin, but I can't, because the s.o. is worse off than I am, and someone has to hold the line.

We have been pissed on and fucked with by so many people for no reason that it boggles the noodle. This country is not fit to live in any more, and that hurts more than I can say. I have no faith in the future even if we somehow manage to get out of here, and the cost will be so high that it'll scar both of us for the rest of our lives.

The last 6 years have killed me, have killed my spouse, have most likely killed our marriage, and will leave more bodies in their wake before it's all said and done.

I wish I could go back to bed and pull the covers over my head and cry and scream for 3 weeks and come out to find out that everything's okay, but that's not going to happen.

Fuck.

4. Thanks
I'm pretty optimistic by nature, but this time I don't think we're going to make it.

Thanks for the hugs.

2. I'm sorry. I found my bankruptcy to be liberating and a ton of weight off
my shoulders.

It's the best thing we ever did and I wonder why we struggled for so long. Hope you can find some peace with it.

3. We thought it would help, but
right now the outlook is so bleak, my head explodes just thinking about it. If we'd done it 2 years ago, we'd be in so much better shape, I'll never forgive myself.

Thanks for the hug. That does help.

13. forgive yourself. do it now. you tried to do the right thing I know.
we had paid back our original debt so many times over and the damned credit companies were just dunning us for interest and penalties. They suck!

and the pressure will start to ease up now, no more calls and nasty letters will be a big relief I swear.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with all this.

I've never filed for bankruptcy but I've been at the bottom several times. Looking up, wishing I was up there, not down here.

All I can say is keep moving forward. Don't stop. Even if you think you can't go another step. Just put one foot in front of the other and trust that whatever the new place is, it will be better, eventually than where you are now.

Again,

I feel like an automaton. I keep going, but I've been doing it for so long, I'm running on fumes and I don't think it's going to make a difference this time. I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for the hugs and good words.

9. That sucks
I have no words that can even cover what grief you two have gone through and will go through. Usually I try to look for a bright side, but am having difficulty doing it. Life can sure throw some pretty nasty pitches.

I am truly sorry you two are going through this.

What really sucks is that we tried to do the right thing for ourselves and other people, and we get rewarded with years of unmitigated hell. All we ever wanted was to be happy and left alone.

Thanks for the hug and good words.

Boy, I screamed the other day when a piece of junk mail attacked my finger and gave me a paper cut. I know my petty problems are nothing, especially compared to what you're dealing with. Hang in there. :loveya:

12. I'm sorry that you're experiencing this.
I hope that you and your spouse can get through all of this, and that some day you can look back on those 6 years and know that you looked adversity in the face and then kicked its ass.

14. I don't understand why you are going to lose your house.
When you file for bankruptcy, you are allowed to keep your house and car, even if they are financed.

21. We can't afford to keep the house
We're so upside down on it, it's not worth trying to keep - and we'll never get out of it anywhere close what we paid for it. This was a great area of town 2 years ago; now it's a war zone and everybody's bailing out.

25. 38,000 Katrina refugees moved into my part of town
and that's after the city increased the speed limit from 30 to 35, which of course means everybody drives 60. I'm waiting for a tanker truck to prang the curb and blow up the whole subdivision.

24. kedrys,
We're almost 2 years into a 3 year bankruptcy. We chose to give up our house(that we had built ourselves) for exactly the same reason, plus the utilities were going to eat us alive. Going thru all that was one of the most stressful times I've ever lived thru. It gets better, but it still hurts like hell if I dwell on it. Best wishes.

15. The Worst Is Yet To Come
I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

I think you would be making the right decision in leaving this country if you can.

Things might get pretty ugly on the way down. In the coming months & years, foreclosures & bankruptcies are going to become very commonplace.

They aren't, and perhaps will Never let on, just what deep SHIT we're in as a country fiscally. Those people who fall below the line in terms of being able to sustain through the troubles which are already developing, are in for some difficult times.

This might be the first real Depression, the U.S. has seen in the last 78 years.

23. I am sorry you are going thru this
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 03:31 PM by RetroLounge
and I am with you all the way...

We've lost our house already, well, sold it at a loss before it was taken by the bank. Our marriage is over, money being one of many reasons. The bankruptcy papers will be filed somethime this summer. Divorce papers after that. Our credit is fucked. The kids are having a harder time than before. We live month-to-month, and sometimes days go by where I feed the kids but there's nothing for me, so I just skip meals, maybe eat once a day. The creditors are ruthless. Utilities have been shut off, then turned back on, only to be shut off again. Then payday rolls around and I get a breather for a few weeks, then it starts over again, only worse... The bookstore has provided a bit of extra cash now and then, but never enough. Garage sales help a bit. Sigh...

hugs to you...

28. If you're coming to Canada, come to Edmonton, Calgary or Ft. McMurray
There's work in all three cities.

If you come to Edmonton, I can find you place to rent that takes cats.

PM me.
