I Need Positive Mojo - (Warhammer 40K Related & Pics)
Yes, I'm a dork...but I know it. My wife is also really hot, so that puts mt in dork-royalty. I also have "cool" hobbies like downhill/freeride mountain biking, and horse training...so I'm not 100% certified dork. :D

Anyway, I'm going to the Chicago Games Day in a week to enter a few of my painted mini's in the painting competition. I've been working on my entries for over a year now, and will be up against hundreds of expert painters from around the world. It's a dream of mine to stand on the stage with a "Golden Demon" award, and be recognized as one of the world's elite painters. I need happy thoughts, and positive karma. I'm hoping all of the spiders a take outside instead of sqishing will band together and send me good mojo.

Most of my stuff is converted, as in chopped up and resculpted, all metalics are done with non-metalic paints, and for reference, these guys are barely 2" tall (28mm)

A couple of my entries:

If you want, you can look at some of my other stuff at: http://www.coolminiornot.com/artist/LunchBox

I hope I'm not bending, fracturing, or otherwise mutilating forum rules...kick me in the ass if I am.

1. You do some amazing work
I played 40K for about 7 years in the 90's, and qualified for the national tournament in 95 as a player (but couldnt go, due to the Army). I did a lot of painting, but never anything as good as your stuff. The detail on your marines, especially the faces, and the drybrushing, is on par with other Golden Demon winners Ive seen. Impressive.

on edit -
found some pics I dug up for the Crafts group a couple months ago

7. Nice Harlie's
Dude...you're a pretty good painter!

Also, the faces are all wet-blended. I spent over 90 days on the first model...the Wolf Priest. The Ultra Marines took me over 400 hours. The Dwarf sucks...I don't play WFB, so I can't find the proper motivation to do one of the models like the 40K stuff.

4. damn - some great stuff. I have several minis from Golden Demon painters
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 02:29 PM by NewJeffCT
I got a Jen Haley painted mini off of eBay several years back, but I've had several painted for me on commission. (Fatherhood has killed my painting time, but I was never a Golden Demon level painter.)

My stuff is all Warhammer Fantasy, though. I originally got into it to use the miniatures as extras in D&D sessions.

The first guy, I think, is fantastic. The dwarf slayer musician seems a bit dark to me, so I can't see all the detail.

Good luck - and let us know how you did.

Here is one of the most recent minis I've had painted for me (by another GD winner)

5. Nuts to all of that. Let's see some pix of the wife

Seriously, that's some fine painting you've done there. I used to work in a hobby store where modelers and tabletop wargamers of all stripes would showcase their work, and yours stands well with just about any of them.

Well, there was one lunatic who completely scratch-built everything, and his shit wound up looking better than anyone's but he was obviously a freak.

Very nice stuff. Thanks for sharing, you dork!

6. Very cool stuff. Good luck!
I was at the Games Workshop convention in Baltimore last year with some friends who are seriously addicted to Warhammer 40K. It was amazing to see the quality of the models and miniatures in the competitions.
