Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 03:50 PM by trof
It's actually WHEP, but before I "re-learned" southern down here, I couldn't tell which. Finally saw the call letters on the station one day.

It's a small town, 6 a.m. till 6 p.m., AM station. They play a lot of Sinatra/big bands type music for all us geezers and fogies.

What I really like about it is that they don't sign off with the national anthem, like most do. They sign off with Jimmy Buffte's version of "Stars Fell On Alabama". Love that song.

It's an online metal station, but I listen to two particular shows, "The Wild Side" and "Back in the Day," both of which play mostly late '80s, early '90s hard rock, as well as some current songs in the same genre (not that there are many).

71. When I Was a Kid Growing Up in NY Back In the '60s....
...WIP played middle-of-the-road (MOR) and Big Band music. Lots of Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Peggy Lee. They were affiliated with WNEW-AM in New York, which followed a similar format.

My parents would listen to WNEW-AM when we were driving to South Jersey to visit my grandmother (she had a farm outside Buena, near Vineland). When WNEW started to fade out, they'd switch to WIP.
