5. I love talk radio
especially randi rhodes, but also catch oxyrush from time to time. On long road trips, it is interesting to listen to call-in shows for a little "local" flavor.

7. WNYC
AM & FM
the AM is always talk, the FM plays music from 7 in the evening until early in the morning.

Otherwise, I just listen to my records. If I could get it where I live I'd listen to - wfmu

:D

Houston's rock stations suck big time... x(

and there is one Latin station that plays salsa/Cuban music on weekend nights ( ); but plays that MOR Mexican ballad stuff the rest of the time ( )

13. KPFT's music progamming is pretty great...even tho the Pacifica purists
don't like it. :eyes:

Learned a lot of Texas music and musicians from KPFT since I first moved here in '93.

17. I just got my KPFT LSB ballot in the mail.
I made a donation to thank them for hosting Will's trip to Houston.

I like the local aspect of the programming. If there's a local expert on a particular kind of music, then I think it's cool that person has a voice. I dislike some of their other programming which seems like it is yelling at me.

22. The computer geek show cracks me up...
...but Amy Goodman, God bless her, is just too damn serious* and earnest for me most of the time.

25. They played WIll's Houston talk/q&a on Democracy Now.
So, I'll give them that. Most of the time, I've already heard what they're talking about or read it here...I can only listen to KPFT via the internet - it would be a highlight of living in Houston. That and the IKEA.

21. Heh...I wonder if that trick still works.
Get a cable splitter, hook one end to an adapter that fits the FM antenna screws...presto...instant radio from afar.

Actually, it wasn't all bad, because at the time KLOL had hired one of my favorite DJs from San Antonio who was let go when KISS-FM went oldies for a couple of years. :eyes:

10. If You're Ever in the DC Area on a Saturday,
turn on WPFW, 89.3.

It runs a whole specturm of traditional blues and R&B music, most of which is completely new to me. The DJs are older black folks, steeped in the music, who chat with their many friends who call in. Wonderful local radio. Never heard anything else like it.

It can't really be classified as "Classic Rock" because they play classic soul and doo wop too.
