Any tips for sleeping through the night?
*Not asking for medical advice*

Ok, every night I go to bed btwn 10-12, b/c I'm not sleepy before that. I fall asleep very easily, but I wake up at 3, 4, 5, etc. I'm also plagued by bizarre dreams, which I think are a factor in my waking up so frequently. And sometimes, I get up and then can't get back to sleep for the life of me. This has been an on and off thing for a while, especially since I cut back on drinking. When I was drinking a ton, I could be passed out straight through. Now, no more. I'd just really like to get a full 8 hours without interruption. Suggestions?

:hi:

1. PM me when you find something
I get up around 3 as well, and dreams often have a lot to do with it, it seems.

2. multiples of 3 are best...
10 to 4 is not bad, or 11 to 5. 6 hours is better than 8.

5. If you drink coffee, give it up.
I had trouble getting a full night's sleep when I was drinking coffee.

But since I've given it up, I sleep a lot better at nights.

Just a suggestion.

I wake up at 4am if I have over 3 beers never fails ever. I thought it was coffee too but I quit that and smoking May 2006 that helped a lot.

8. Exercise
At least walking. I've had an insomnia problem for months, and the only thing that helps is to physically wear myself out...I work on computers all day, so when I come home at night my mind is exhausted but my body is twitchy with energy. The walking has also helped to alleviate my anxiety symptoms.

Good luck!

12. Not a bad idea!
Thank you! I do find it to be less of a problem when I'm in school, so busy that I'm exhausted. This summer I'm basically doing nothing. That is probably a factor.

16. Sleep is a trip
I think it's all individual though.

Lay off caffeine from 4ish on helped me. There are still times when I can't sleep period. I am convinced it's a cycle with me.

The drinking makes a hella difference too. I am also convinced that I drank often just so I could sleep. Thats prolly not good :D

23. how recently did you cut back on the drinking?
honestly i don't think there is anything to do except bull it through for six months or so, taking care that you either stop drinking entirely or keep it to a very occasional glass of wine or something with dinner

no "binges" or it could set back the calendar

just my guess

29. Have you tried Melatonin?
It gets you to sleep, and even if you wake up at three am, you can still go back to sleep. No groggyness in the AM either.
WFM has an assortment in different mg sizes.

30. I have that problem too.
Worry, worry, worry. I sometimes take a sleeping pill. Don't eat right or drink a a lot before you go to bed...I find when I do that I have strange dreams. You want to sleep but your stomach doesn't. A fan helps...white noise...neighbors crank up the Chevy truck at 3:30 am...(dreading winter. I'm going to have to read the other tips posted.
