Chipmunks -- what makes them go away?
Humanely, of course. There seem to be an abundance of chipmunks living in my yard this year and I don't like them. I'm always afraid I'm going to squash one with the car or I'll find one in the basement (recently discovered a dead field mouse in the basement and I haven't gotten over it yet). I had the handyman check all possible entry points and plug them up but the little buggers hang out in the flower beds close the house and I fear they will find their way inside when the cold weather returns or, at the very least, feast on all the bulbs I plan to plant this fall.

I don't have a dog or cat that could chase them away -- do they hate mothballs and cayenne pepper the way squirrels do? Need advice!

5. OMG - I love them too!
The cutest littlest precious furry creatures.

They're the only thing I miss about my five years of forced suburban hell.

7. I used to feed them when I still lived in an apartment
They would stuff their little cheeks with seeds and scamper back to their den. Sometimes, they would eat the peanuts while I watched.

*SWOON*

9. i don't understand the constant need on this site to be rid of nature
chipmonks are cute as hell. i really wouldn't worry about running them over as they are faster than hell.

not likely to get into the house either.

you are lucky to live in an area with nature all around (as am I)

i just don't get it. they aren't going to hurt you. let them be.

hell we were awakened at 3 am last night by the most noxious skunk odor right outside the bedroom window. stunk like hell but this is where we choose to live and we love it

15. Well, they have wreaked havoc in my flower garden
And did get into my SO's house once. I don't want them dead, I just don't want them in my yard. Also, I live in the city so I don't think I'm invading their habitat too strenuously; living in the country is a different story...

20. We have them and love them. They don't come in the house, but they do dig tunnels everywhere.
You could try eliminating any possible food source for them, but since they eat just about everything, it might not be easy. Some thing that attract them here: acorns, crabapples, pinecones, berries. Can you check around to see what they are eating?

I haven't noticed them eating bulbs, but I think you can wrap some kind of wire mesh around the bulbs before you plant them to discourage critters from eating them. I have tons of tulips, daffodils, crocus, etc, and they really don't seem to bother them.
