Kitties who are able to act irresistably adorable are able to get special treatment from humans, and thereby improve their chances to survive, prosper and reproduce, and then pass their cuteness genes down to future generations.

It's just a Darwinistic adaptation to domestication.

IIRC correctly, it partly serves to overcome the disadvantage of being born so completely useless.

14. Mine have gone to a different school
Its the "Hey I'm right here and if you can't be bothered to focus on me and only me I will knock this fragile decoration onto the floor will it will break into multiple pieces". Or in short hand the "negative attention is still attention" school:)
