I'm waiting on my sofa delivery right now. I have no idea when they'll show up (I suppose I could call?) and sitting around waiting when I could be out doing stuff instead really sucks.

1. Did they give you a ridiculously wide window of delivery?
Over here they usually say something like, it'll be after midday. Gee, thanks assholes. :eyes:

Maybe I should buy a pickup truck when I grow up, so I don't have to deal with this crap.

4. You mean a cargo van? Or a moving truck?
Either it's something we don't have or the nomenclature's different (why won't you people speak English?!? )

6. Oh, it's a bit like those Dodge Sprinter vans.
I don't think they sell that one here. Mostly tradesmen here use pickups of various sizes. Sometimes mini or full sized vans converted to cargo, but you don't see many with those real high back ends like that. Daimler sells one that I guess comes from the Euro market but it never really caught on and you don't see terribly many.

Think U-Haul but smaller.

10. Oh.
We need bigger moving trucks because we have more stuff, and larger sofas to accommodate the epic proportions of the American backside probably wouldn't fit.

12. People rent them for their own use and tradesmen have their own ones.
When you want to haul something that's too big for a car or pickup but too small for a truck, we use a van.

14. We have vans here, they look different though.
typical cargo vans here look something like this: http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=truck-cargovan

and moving trucks: http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=truck-14

People tend to use pickup trucks more though, since the american mentality is that trucks are manly and vans are for mothers with children (this is how SUVs got to be so popular here, selling them to people who wanted the versatility of a minivan but without the motherly association.) I guess there vans are more associated with tradesmen.

18. The Brits used to have a micro-van
that I thought was seriously cool (though I'd get my ass flailed for saying that). It was a product of GM and... Bedford, I think. Or maybe Leyland. It was called the Chevanne, and basically it was a Chevette sedan delivery. I thought it looked sweet.

27. It was actually really cheap.
I got it at Big Lots. And I signed up their email list so I'd get the sale coupons, so I got it for 20% off- a nice sofa and love seat for about $750 including taxes. There's a matching recliner but I'm not sure if it will fit in the den, so we'll wait and see after the delivery. I think I can drive that home in the wagon anyhow.

I approve ;)

Im debating between my two favorite resturants.

Red Bamboo Soul Cafe http://www.redbamboo-nyc.com vegan/veggie Asian soul food

or

Caravan of Dreams http://www.caravanofdreams.net vegan, macrobiotic, kosher world cuisine with raw a food menu to boot. (its fun to see the hari krishnas and orthodox jews eating at the same restaurant)

The choice is up to you. both are amazing, and get 5 heads-o-lettuce in my boot  the menus are on both websites too, so only go look if you're really hungry :D
