What are you listening to this weekend?
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 05:37 PM by mvd
I listened to quite a few while traveling:

Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous
Juliette & The Licks - You're Speaking My Language
Tegan And Sara - The Con
Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist
Lisa Mychols - Sweet Sinsations
Suzanne Vega - Beauty & Crime
Kim Richey - Chinese Boxes
They Might Be Giants - The Else
Aly & AJ - Insomniatic
Rooney - Calling The World
Veruca Salt - Eight Arms To Hold You
Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger

The Rilo Kiley, Tegan And Sara, Lisa Mychols, Suzanne Vega, Aly & AJ, They Might Be Giants, Rooney, and Veruca Salt are HIGHLY recommended! The Ryan Adams, Kim Richey and Smashing Pumpkins are recommended (I wanted to hear more energy from Kim,) and Juliette And The Licks have a few good songs (like "Seventh Sign," "Money In My Pocket, and "American Boy,") surrounded by filler. It sounds like Juliette's new album is similar.

I heard these online recently:

Colbie Caillet - Coco (it's ok as background music, but most of it just floats away. I'd give it a B-.)

samples from A Fine Frenzy (Alison Sudol is very talented and attractive! While Tori uses weightier arrangements to her advantage, Alison just as effectively uses a sparer approach. I want this album.)

samples from Straylight Run - The Needles The Space (another album that sounds worth buying)

samples from Saving Jane's One Girl Revolution (more very effective pop/rock)

samples from The Donnas' upcoming album Bitchin (it sounds like their best stuff so far, and I've always been a fan)

samples from Minnie Driver's Seastories (really sounds like an improvement over her first CD, with richer melodies)

samples from John Vanderslice (maybe not quite up to his praise, but an interesting artist)

6. Swear to god dude.. I'm not following you around on the Internet.
And I learned a awesome new word today....

Apatheist: An apatheist is a type of atheist who, rather than not believing in any gods because the arguments for them are weak, simply doesn't care about the existence of any gods and goes about life as if none existed.

16. I like TV On The Radio
They are kind of like a modern Pink Floyd IMO, and more consistent.

I still have the new Against Me CD on my wish list. :hi:

21. Not sure I'd liken them to Pink Floyd.
More reminiscent of post-punk and whatnot to me, though I'm not sure of a specific band I'd compare them to.

22. They do songs that sound like musical sketches sometimes
They remind me of Pink Floyd in that way. They end up with different styles, but some of the philosophy seems the same.

15. And it illustrates how the current model is broken..
Now my sister and about five friends of mine like them. I burned some CD's. Word of mouth is huge here. If they ever played a show here they would do well from the word of mouth by my single stolen CD.

13. Come to think of it, I don't even have "In These Fair Streets We Fall," think you could hook me up?
Also, is it weird to be asking a dude from a different country to hook you up with the album of a band you know personally? Haha.

17. A lot of Tom Waits. I put some of his albums onto a long playlist for a long drive recently,
Edited on Sat Jul-28-07 06:33 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
including "Blue Valentine" which I'd bought years ago and only listened to a few tunes... I totally DISCOVERED this album after all this time, and have been playing it over and over, particularly the blues number "$29.00", and the hipster poem "Romeo is Bleeding", as well as the ballad "Kentucky Road".

I've been listening to the "Nighthawks at the Diner" album while in the car a lot too.

Tom Waits has been part of my life ever since early adulthood, and though I go long periods sometimes without listening to him, I always come back, like coming home.

29. I taught myself...
...to play "A Little Rain" on my keyboard. I can only do the melody though. But it's the only song I can play in its entirety. (I can't read music, so I play by ear.)

25. Some other notes from recent listening
- new Hanson album The Walk is a big step backwards. I think they are trying too hard.

- the new Sum 41 and Yellowcard albums are just ok, with the Yellowcard being a bit better. The Sum 41 was better than I thought it would be, though

- Jordan McCoy is another promising young pop/rocker; Girl Authority is just for the kids

27. Moby right this second but-
We've just rebuilt my old computer which rocks :headbang: but now my itunes doesn't know how to find the first 3,000 songs I put on it. So now I have to sit here and play them one by one and then show it where they are.
Every song,
one. by. one.
So I just listened to Ministry and Modern English and Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam with Full Force. They aren't alphabetical, I don't know how that happens, it's iLogic.

I'm gonna check the stuff on your list mvd, it looks nyce :D If it wasn't for everyone telling me what's the good new stuff to try.. well I don't know what..
