Look who followed me home.

Poor little guy, I think he might be hurt, but I can't get real close to look. It looks like he might have had a cat get him on his belly, but I only see what might be a wound when he ruffles his belly feathers. Little guy flew right up to me when I got out of my car and then started to follow me around like a little dog. I walked him to the backyard and showed him the bird feeders and the bird bath which he helped himself to. Now he's hanging out on my porch cleaning himself.

2. Looks like a juvenile.
If it's following you around, it's acting like one too. We've had mourning doves nest in our yard and the youngins' don't have very good instincts about friend/foe -- we've joked that it's a miracle that any of them grow up and breed. It's better that the bird keeps its distance for its own long term survival.

They are pretty birds and fun to watch. It may hang out at your house for the rest of the season. Ours do.

4. Well, that makes me feel a bit better if he's acting normal. It was just so weird that I got out and
he flew right up, he acted like he wanted to land on me but couldn't quite figure out where to land. Then he just walked/flew to follow me into the garage. I laid a little bit of seed on the driveway and he walked right up to it and started pecking away. I figured if he's in the backyard he should be safe unless he flies away. I've seen a pair of mourning doves hanging out in the back before, so this might be one of their offspring. I just checked on him again and he's sitting right there. When I sat down out there with him, he flew right up and sat on the table with me for a few minutes.

3. Is your real name "Grizzly Adams"?
:hide:

In seriousness, that's cute - perhaps proof of reincarnation, that bird knew you from somewhere before?

5. Heh, I got too much "city boy" in me to be Grizzly Adams. It's nice to think that he might sense I'm
a good guy though. :-)

6. If my little Pitter-pat was there, he's watch that bird and cry.
He sits in the window all day, watching birds and crying. It's so cute!
