Need advice/link on website hosting
I guess that is what you call it.

My wife wants to start an informative, resource clearing house (I guess you would call it) website.

What are the costs?
How is it hosted? Do you rent server space or how does that work?

Please realize that this is clearly from a clueless foundation.

Any good links to information?

Is a "blog" as useful? Is it taking as seriously as a .net or .com?

Just pointing me in the right general direction would help a lot.

Thanks in advance.

2. You can try Yahoo as a host
They have different pay plans, I think from $10/month on up, which includes use of their servers.

I think they even have different site templates you can use to build your site (sorry, it's been a couple years since I used them).

And at least you know their servers won't go down.

A blog won't get nearly the traffic that a .com will.

Yahoo helps you register your site name as well. I think that's an additional one-time fee of $35 (which goes to whatever group does site domain registration, not Yahoo, but you can pay it through them).

3. I would start with shared hosting..
You can find good deals for under $10 per month. What "shared" means is that you share a server with hundreds of other people. This stops working very well if you have a dynamic site (database driven) that becomes popular. But, it works great for most applications. I would start with shared hosting. The hosting company will let you know when you need to upgrade. CPU usage is the main reason people need to upgrade to a dedicated server.

If your site gets really popular you will need to get a dedicated server.. You have control over the entire server that way.

A blog is like a forum. It is a type of website not a domain (like .com .net .org). I would try to find a .com domain. Most people assume that your URL is a .com.

And I use https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/ for my hosting. I have never had a problem with them. I can't comment on their support, I have never needed it.

4. If you would've asked this yesterday I would've had an answer for you...
Somebody told me about a great new hosting service... It's like $10 a month.

But, I've slept since then.

I'll have to ask them what it was again.
