I just avoided hitting a motorcyclist this morning.
Just as I set off for work, right by my house there is a four-way intersection where another road crosses. Both roads are only small ones, so I'm not talking a big intersection, I mean a little one with no visibility. The way I was driving had right of way, where the other road had the stop line and they had to give way to the other traffic. But a motorcyclist carried straight on without stopping - shit, without even looking - right in front of me.

Fortunately for him* I was only doing 20mph and apparently had my wits about me, and I hit the brakes in time. But it was pretty close. Damned fool wants to kill himself.

* I assume it was a him, can't tell in the clothes motorcyclists usually wear over here.

1. How scary
I'm glad you had your wits about you. If it had been me driving in the morning, he would have been toast.

4. So, does the person on the left go first?
I use several of these crossroads around here. They're out in the country, sometimes a stop sign, sometimes not. Definitely no light. Over here, the person to the right goes first and on around (that is if everybody gets to the intersection at the same time) . Sincer you drive on the left, does the person on the left go first?

Glad nobody got hurt this morning!

6. Depends on the road layout.
The normal practice at a crossroads is for one of the roads crossing to have right-of-way, and to be considered the more important, with traffic crossing this road having to give way (which is nearly always mitigated by a local practice of allowing folk through if it's all very busy).

5. I really do think that motorcyclists are quite daredevils
Going between vehicles on the motorway and roaring past cars in the countryside. I suppose they feel that they have the fastest thing on the road that they should have the right of way.

Did you see the Think!Road Safety advert with the motorcyclist? That was quite graphic.
