I just discovered that I do not like the music from High School Musical

Egads - it's just awful!!

I mean, even for a trite musical, it's awful.

:scared:

:puke:

I'm glad I borrowed the CD, and didn't by it.

Ew.

It's like they said, "Okay, we need really shitty cliche singers - ask some of the American Idol winners. Then give them even dumber, more cliched music than they usually sing, and ask them to sing in an even more cliched way, and then let's take the whole and up the cliches a notch. We need to stamp out of every possibility of anything creative or unique happening in the music, the lyrics, and the performance!"

1. Seriously, it's like the writers said, "Up With People is too complex, too jazzy; tone it down"
:eyes:

2. LOL!

I haven't paid attention to it at all. The generic "High School Musical" title is off-putting to me. I mean, if you wanted to tell the story of a theatrical production you couldn't be bothered to think of a specific story like "Fame" or "Kiss Me Kate"

Nice to know the music is as bland as the title sounds.

3. I feel safe in saying that, even by my highly elitist and snooty musical tastes,
which holds in disdain most of what people enjoy, that this music truly is substandard.

It makes New Kids on the Block look like fuckin' AC/DC.

4. A Chorus Line
is another one that talks about backstage shenanigans well.

I just know some Disney marketing weasel was sitting at his/her desk one day and said hmmmm. what's the barest amount of entertainment we can get away with and still call it a "show."

5. Well, you're obviously not a 'tweener!
:D

my 10 yr old dtr is counting the minutes til High School Musical 2 comes out, sometime next wk :eyes:

and yes, she knows practically ALL the words to the first one, too. She thinks they're "catchy tunes" and the guy who plays Zac is really cute!!

I take it you haven't actually seen it, right? I finally got around to it recently and must admit, it was entertaining, in a sickeningly sweet kind of way.

I was in a Limited Too store yesterday with my dtr and everywhere you turned there was HSM merchandise to buy. :scared:

6. My sister can't wait either
She also knows the words to every song. In fact, she actually went out to get that one girl's solo CD. Personally I think the music's just as bad as any other overrated teen pop band/group, i.e. N'Sync, Rihanna, etc.

8. Probably
But you do have to wonder who the person was who just woke up one day and said "Ya know? A Musical about High School would really be a big hit for Disney!"

But really, that fact that they've even incorporated HSM into evrything, from their virtual online game, to the parks, to the channel.

14. But rarely do I poo-poo something I haven't actually experienced.
To do so is intellectual dishonesty.

So as a mature, grown up, emotionally adjusted person let me just say:

Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!
