Systematic thoughts from my weekend...
Attempting change from without tends to consolide the power which does not want to be changed. The establishment becomes entrenched.

Therefore, it is beter to work within the system than try to change it from outside.

It would then be advantageous for the progressives to try and influence the Democratic party to be more progressive. The party already has a Democratic wing, whereas the Repubs not only do not have any progressive ideals, they want to torture to death anyone who ever has a progressive thought.

Additionally, even if the Democratic party is corporatist like the Repubs, it is still better to vote for them over the Repubs because of committee leaderships and judicial nominees. Voting for Repubs because they are seen as the same as Dems leads to totalitarians on the Supreme Court, as we've seen.

From a conversation I had with a Green friend of mine...

And a copycat...

5. I agree with all but the trying to change
grassroots baby... that's how the thugs got their conservative fake people in. They started out in small races over the years.

To get progressives in we have to elect progressives in all areas of government.

:hi:

6. I'm still voting for the socialists
:D

I know what you are saying, but it still bothers me that I will probably have to vote for someone who does not represent many progressive ideals. At one point I told myself that I would not vote for anyone who helped authorize Bush to invade Iraq. It is becoming clear that if I stick to that then I will probably have to sit out the election. Either that or write somebody in.

8. I can't blame you, really
However, I would argue that the long-term benefit could be worth it compared to the short-term benefit of making it clear you are not supporting anyone but a select group of people.

12. Yeah, I know, I know
But I don't know if voting for just anyone with a 'D' beside their name will help us create any long term change. It couldn't be any worse I guess.

We have to get the corporate influence out of politics. Both major political parties have long stood for corporate interests over the interests of the people. The Democrats just throw us a bone every once in a while because it is thought to be good for business. I think if most Americans understood that we would see a great deal of change in a short period of time.

13. I wholeheartedly agree
And I'm not sure what the answer is, other than getting more involved in politics and risking being consumed by the corporate overlords.
