300 Spartans vs 300 vs reality
I watched both "300 Spartans" and "300" over the weekend. I also recorded a History Channel documentary called "Last Stand of the 300" but have not watched it yet.

I realize that the recent "300" took the most liberties with actual events, but I think their depiction of the Greek hoplites fighting in a tight phalanx formation was pretty good.

However, I thought the older "300 Spartans" was a bit closer to what I understand the real situation to be: heavily armored Spartans, not row upon row of bare-chested beefcake in capes; the terrain was not a steep drop-off down a cliff into the water; the other Greeks played a key role at Thermopylae and that Themistocles' role with the Athenian navy was vital. "300" made it sound likely it was mostly the Spartans by themselves, with those other guys (Acadians?)making one mad charge into the Immortals.

Is "300 Spartans" a pretty accurate depiction of the actual battle?
