2. For many years, Meryl Streep was my favorite actress.

I first noticed her when I was about 15 and saw "Kramer vs. Kramer" on HBO. Then a couple of years later, on Siskel & Ebert's recommendation, I saw "Sophie's Choice" and loved it. After that came "Silkwood," "Out of Africa," "A Cry in the Dark," and "Postcards From the Edge," among others.

Until she started doing all those lame-ass comedies in the '90s, Meryl Streep was my favorite actress. But she still comes out with a good film on occasion. "Marvin's Room" and "Dancing at Lughnasa," for example.
