I need to get something off my chest...
The past few weeks I have been going to Community Emergency Services and volunteering on friday afternoons here in Minneapolis to help out those that need food, and those that are providing it. Anyway, it is at a church, and I have made some observations of the people there.

Lets start with the guy that grabbed my hand and wanted me to feel his pocket... and I am not making this up, because according to him he has a gun in there, a real gun, you pervs...this from the same guy that has a so called respect for life that extends all the way to a zygote in a uterus but not to Iraqi women and children, or our own soldiers. I never did feel his pocket, so I don't have solid proof he was actually carrying a gun in the basement of a church or not. WWJS= Who Would Jesus Shoot

Second, the other people populating this place are a bunch of bitchy old church ladies who I have to believe have no real desire to be there helping anyone but themselves to feelings of superiority. Seriously, they do nothing but bitch and moan all day long, then yell at the people that they are there to help.

I have decided not to go back after one of them bitchy old church ladies yelled at me for being kind to a somali woman by, at the end of the day, letting her have what was left over.

Fine, if thats what it cost, I am happy with it. Anyone want to open a food shelf where we are actually kind to the people we are helping?

1. I would be nice to people...
...I've been in that position too many times not to be.

2. Can you see if the Unitarians in your community do some sort of
food program? Or suck it up, and go back and offset the bitchy old women with your kindness towards people who are less fortunate than you are. You don't have to be superior about being better than the old catty bitches - just use your humbleness and kindness as a tool to help those in need. The ones coming to that place for help probably need a kind face.

Good for you for volunteering. Don't let the asses get you down.

3. Volunteering isn't always fun, but you shouldn't have to deal with
that kind of shit.

I'm sure there are other places that would love to have your help. :)

5. What's the church? Or at least, give us the denomination.
Curious, though I'm not surprised - some churches aren't very loving at all.

6. I went to two food pantries this summer because I needed food
I was the only caucasian- most of the clients and people working there were hispanic or black. Not all of them though, and some of the volunteers were university students. Everyone was really nice.

7. Thats nice
I am glad you had a good experience. It breaks my heart to see the way some of the other volunteers treat the people that come to CES for help. It is sad.

If I had my way I would give every single person that came through, a HUG!
