6. I don't know that you can apply "shouldn't have" to a feeling.
Maybe a better question would be, "Ever acted on a feeling about someone when you shouldn't have?"

Just my two cents.

50. I am not saying that all young men are like this or even necessarily the majority
I grew up in a socially conservative area and the most attractive, self assured, accomplished young men who were not in monagamous relationships seemed to be like this. For some reason, they wanted me to be their friend. They did not want me as one of their conquests. One of my male friends said "I respect you too much to ever sleep with you." I believe that he was telling the truth since he generally had no respect for his conquests.
Perhaps, now that they are out of high school and college, they have matured and changed.

Married man. I was lovesick from age 18 to age 48, mostly in my mind. That's right. It took me thirty years to get over it.

He's dead now. End of story.

My advice? Don't do it. If you feel you can't help it, get some counseling.

I would classify "anyone who does not love me back" in that category, and there are too many names to recall. One was a really awful woman. Some were decent women. A few were wonderful women. Most were friends. Oh well.

40. Right now, probably
Its more of a situation thing. Met someone who I probably don't ever have a chance of hell of being with because of the difficulties (distance, life situation, and some other complicating factors) but I keep hoping things work out. BTW, it was totally accidental because neither of us was looking for that kind of thing when we met, in a non dating/hook up situation. Most unexpected. I keep hoping though. What else can I do?

54. I can only think of one person where there isn't some
obvious benefit or lesson looking back on it, where I didn't gain something from the relationship in some way. That was about ten years ago, it lasted 9 months, and I guess I feel like it "might" have been a mistake because I don't feel the person every loved me, they were just a user. But the truth is, I went through some pretty extreme things (financial difficulties, three cars that wouldn't run, etc) after the breakup, and I guess I learned that I am a survivor and no matter what happens I will work around it. If I just don't limit myself in terms of what I believe I can soldier through, then I can make it through anything. So I guess I gained some things from that, even though they were more after the relationship, rather than during. I *should* have learned at that point not to assign virtue to someone just because other people see them in a positve light, but I've had to revisit that one a bit...that one keeps coming back around, and until I learn to trust my gut instinct it probably will.

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?

Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say.

Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

Mary: Not good.

Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.

(pause)
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.
