on edit: I think it depends upon your reasons for looking for a new site. If you're looking for something else, you may need to start it on your own. There are unmentionable places for disgruntled DUers, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been to a few though, and DU is the best by far. I did get booted off of HuffPost because I told a tough talking Republic that I'd smack him around and all. Oops. :) But seriously, if DU wears on you start Alerting or putting on Ignore the offending people. Or utilize the Hide thread function. I think besides that if things get heated just take a break for a week or two, or even a month or two. I used to have serious problems with some people a few years ago, and was getting stalked on threads, but I started using Ignore and all of that stuff. Really it was just very few people that I ever had trouble with, and, in the end, they all got TS'ed. DU is very user friendly that way. If you have problems there are ways to protect yourself. Other forums aren't that easy to work with.

... i still check back there for news (not nearly so frantic as here) but i've never delved into whether they a variety of other forums (GD, special interest etc) available.
