9. Ah, when I answered the poll, I wasn't thinking of strictly stand-up comedians.
I'm not sure if Hartman did stand-up either, to be honest. But he's definitely one of my favorite deceased comedians.

54. So very, very wrong...
Comedians to this day discuss Jack Benny's impeccable timing. And on the Jack Benny Show, he was an incredibly generous "star" who allowed his cast to get of some great punch lines. When I lived in Cincinnati, a local radio station played Jack's show (and several others) and so I got to hear several years' worth. They're still funny today.

I know that he was a conservative and so on, but I still liked his jokes, depreciating humor and delivery. And, no matter what his politics, he did a heck of a lot of entertaining of American troops over the years when others, including politicians, couldn't be bothered.
