Here's to a safe return for the Shuttle Endeavour.

That heat shield damage makes me nervous. I am hoping the 2nd teacher to go up makes it home safe and sound.

1. I know - I am really worried for them...
I was born the day the Challenger exploded, and grew up hearing about it...all I can think of is that I hope the crew of the Endeavour will return safely to Earth.

2. I remember the Challenger vividly.
We had a huge TV in the cafeteria at my Jr. High, and we were watching the footage.

Then, the Columbia.

We can't lose another one.

3. My mom remembers it pretty vividly, too...
Actually, she has kind of a funny story about that. She and my dad had gone to the doctor's office to make sure she was actually in labor, and after the dr. had confirmed that she was, my mom went back out to the main office and saw my dad's butt hanging over the edge of the nurse's station (at least, that's how she tells it - he has a slightly different recollection :)). My mom went over to my dad to tell him that they needed to get to the hospital, and he told her to wait! It turns out that the radio at the nurse's station was just broadcasting the news of the Challenger explosion, and my dad was trying to hear the details, not really thinking that it might not be a good idea to tell his more-than-nine-months-pregnant wife to "wait" to go to the hospital.

I do remember the Columbia, though. That was another tragedy...I really hope it will be the last one. :(

6. That's going to be a nerve wracking descent for the crew.
Every loud noise, every vibration, every creak & groan will have them looking around nervously. If I wasn't the pilot, I'd want a Valium.

Of course, if I had a chance to go, I'd take it in a heart-beat.

8. hell, give the pilot a valium too
they'll be remote controlling the thing from NASA anyway. I cannot imagine how scared they and their families must be. Aside from the horror of losing another bunch of astronauts, I fear that another shuttle catastrophe may put our space program on a permanent vacation.
