Firefly/Serenity Fans, Serenity Collector's Edition comes out today
And Joss Whedon says that a sequel may depend on how well it sells.

I don't have too high expectations but a small part of me really hopes it will happen.

4. In a nutshell
Firefly is a show that is a combination of sci-fi and old west. It was on Fox and lasted for one season (15 episodes) and then got canceled due to a combination of Fox's executives being morons and Fox's viewers being morons, preferring another hour of American Idol or Joe Millionaire.

Even though it was only on for 15 episodes, the show has a cult following and largely because of that, the creator was able to make a movie to follow up the series (Serenity) in 2005.

If you're at all interested in science fiction I highly recommend checking it out.

5. Uh-oh.
Sounds like Call Me Wesley will soon be expanding our library (no exaggeration) of science fiction DVDs. He's a HUGE science fiction fan. I'm just a novice.

6. I guarantee that neither of you will be disappointed
Make sure to watch Firefly before Serenity. The movie is still great but the show is even better and also comes earlier chronologically.

10. And it gets you connected to the characters better
so by the time the movie comes around, you actually care what happens to them. :) Unfortunately, I did it the other way around. So when I watched the movie, I didn't get sniffly during certain parts which shall remain spoiler-less on this thread. But now when I watch it I do, since I've seen the TV series.

13. Same creator as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel
Joss Whedon. Firefly/Serenity has a totally different feel and storyline but same great intense characters and extra witty elevated dialogue.

I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan and willingly watch anything he puts out.

TV is much poorer creatively right now with no show of his on the air IMO.

8. My wife hates both science fiction and westerns...
and yet she LOVED Firefly. I have rarely met anyone who didn't like the show.

Just goes to show you what razor-sharp writing in combination with an attractive, talented cast (with enormous chemistry) will do, regardless of a show's setting or subject matter.

7. Browncoats!
I think I'll be getting this set because I love all the "extras."

I still wish Fox would have done the right thing and kept Firefly on the air.

9. This is something that I'll buy even though I'm a bit strapped for cash right now
with so few good things in the media, I'd like to find some way to support one of the few good things out there.
That, and I never got around to getting a copy when the DVD first came out, and I'm less broke now than I was then. :)

11. Shame I boycott Fox.
If i ever run across a used copy of the series, though, I'll be all over it.

12. Well, the movie was done by Universal
And I'm not sure what kind of royalties FOX was entitled to in their agreement so that universal could secure the rights. Whedon said that after they canceled Firefly he wasn't ever working for FOX again.

Loved the movie, and bought a copy. Completely conventional plot, but sparkling characters and dialogue.

On edit: Oh. You were talking about the movie all along.
