Religionists, Beware!!
A friend on another board just gave me a link

http://www.fstdt.com/fundies/lastcomments.aspx

This is mainly full of Christian extremist quotes but does have others.

For example
"I'm probably going to sound like a fundy, but it just dawned on me that Satan may be actively working to make Christianity look stupid in my eyes. I can't put my finger on it, but I seem to be bombarded with the impression that the faith is moronic and ill-founded, and that Christians are misguided in their thinking. I must steel myself and be more aware of this growing impression in my mind, which is from the devil. "

and
"LA is burning confinscated firearms to make concrete. I heard this on Jon Caldera, and I called in. Even though the firearms were illegal, and needed a lisence to get them, they could've still been used to sell to legal gun owners. I thought that this was a pure waste of firearms, when I heard the story, I almost cried , firearms are God's gift to the planet.
So, what do you think? Do you think LA should burn those guns to recycle for concrete?

and
"I'm tired of hearing all of this debate of homosexuality. Why is it even debateable? These people are abominations in the eyes of the Lord; they could change their ways but choose not to. There's no arguement, that's just how it is. We should burn the gays at the stake, it worked in the Inquisition...I don't see any witches around anymore (real witches, not those hippy wiccan imitation witches)."

The main page for the site - Fundies Say the Darndest Things - is here http://www.fstdt.com/

Enjoy - so to speak

3. Nobody's burning my cousin at the stake or anything else.
"I'm tired of hearing all of this debate of homosexuality. Why is it even debateable?..."

Right. Leave them alone.

Jesus Fucking Christ! There are Senators who think this way!

"I almost cried , firearms are God's gift to the planet."

Speaking as a firearm enthusiast, that is the most idiotic thing I have ever read.

"I'm probably going to sound like a fundy...."

Probably.

Oh for fuck's sake... <bangs head on desk>

How can someone function and get through life being that stupid? And thinking the Inquisition got rid of "real witches?" Jesus H. Christ on a unicycle....

6. Yeah, I think we should discuss
the tax exempt status of institutional haters. Of course, that really isn't debateable either, just fucking convenient for christians who don't deserve the break.

I suggest the poster hates homosexuals by day and sucks them off at night.

9. He made sense for a little while...
The 'burning' or otherwise destroying guns idea is stupid. Keeps the gun makers busy building new ones. But the "God's gift to the planet" comment was nutso. And how the hell is ash with chunks of steel in it going to help make concrete?

The problem with representative democracy is that the insane and stupid also get representation, too. Unfortunately, there's no way around it.

Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time. - Winston Churchill, November 11th, 1947

4. That site is funny and disturbing at the same time.
"my daughter not being able to play a war game on the Wii because she was a girl. Besides being too young to play it, it is true that I won't let her play it because she is a girl. And no, I don't think she should not learn math, either"

All I could think was that poor little girl, she's doomed.

12. What gets me is the circular logic
The first person has doubts, hears arguments against religion but instead of treating them rationally, decides that it must mean the devil is working his evil to make him renounce his faith.

So faith doesn't have to make any sense. It's either god's mysterious ways or the devil made me do it. :wtf:

I prefer something a little more concrete than that (as long as it's not made from "confinscated" firearms, god's gift to the planet - again, I say :wtf: )

14. The people who are most attracted to fundamentalism as followers are
those who have been drifting through their lives without much direction (often from very unstable homes), they know they're out of control, and they're looking for someone to tell them what to do. (It's the same impulse that prompted two of my most obnoxious students ever to join the Marines.)

If they're basically intelligent, they grow out of fundamentalism, but if they're not, anything can happen.

There was a small cult in Wisconsin during the early 1980s that was opposed to computers. The reason? They thought that floppy disks were made from the brains of aborted fetuses. I'm not making this up.

Unfortunately, American anti-intellectualism is no help here. Our schools are not terribly challenging by world standards, and our pop culture tells us that it's uncool to be intellectual. Conventional wisdom says that most students "don't need" anything beyond what's required for their future careers.

Japanese people have occasionally asked me to explain fundamentalist Christianity. Having heard about Islamic fundamentalism, they are unsurprised to hear about the restrictions on behavior, but I tell them that fundamentalists reject evolution, they're astonished.

But then, Japanese students are required to take science all through high school, whether they're university-bound or not. They're not allowed to opt out with some notion of "not needing it."

15. What's a religionist?
I believe in God. However, these people are an embarrassment to our country. They shame us.

Also, as a Christian, that first quote strikes me. I don't believe in Satan, but I do believe that if there were a Satan, he would be especially proud of how he as turned fundie Xtianity into the sick and twisted perversion of a religion it is. the guy in the first quote has it wrong - debating his version of Xtianity isn't of the devil, his beliefs themselves are.

16. I used the term religionist to avoid insulting Christians
Because the site does not just pick on Christians but highlights the idiocies of all beliefs. The vast majority of Christians are sane, sensible, compassionate people - same as the rest of the planet.
