He's a nice guy, half interested in politics. He once told me that, although he considered himself a conservative Republican, he was planning on voting for Obama this time, because he like Obama's plain speech and wisdom. He heard Obama say that all Americans should have the same health care plan that Congress has, and was moved by it. That should tell you how uninformed he is, since every Democrat since I've been alive has said that, but this is the first time he heard it. :eyesroll:
His second choice, in case you are interested, is Fred Thompson, because he sees similarities between Obama and Thompson. Yeah, I'm serious, that's what he said.
So, I'm in my office and I hear the normal buzz outside at the counter--low, indistinct voice. Suddenly, one gets much louder. "I'm serious!" he says. He then goes on, loudly, to proclaim that 9-11 was an inside job, our government--both parties--would soon turn us over to the New World Order, troops would be marching, etc. Counter Guy must have looked skeptical, because he started listing his proof. "Operation Norquist" (sic) proved that the government had been behind 9-11 and every assassination, the FISA bill had sold all our rights, George Bush was spying on him as we spoke! Watch "Terror Storm!" It shall set you free. Then he drew the Matrix analogy--here's the pill, you can refuse to take it and live in happy ignorance, or swallow it and wake up to a harsh new world, and FREEDOM!!!
I'm in the office laughing my ass off. Not that I disagree with EVERYTHING he said, really, just that this guy sounded like a "REPENT, THE END IS NIGH!" preacher on the retaining wall outside the Alamo, and I knew my friend had no idea what he was talking about. So eventually, the preacher guy left, and my co-worker yells out "Joby!" I emerge laughing. "Where were you when I needed you?"
I filled him in as best I could on Operation Northwoods, the FISA bill, and other stuff, and I gave him the background on "The Bushes have been behind everything in the world from Hitler to modern times" scenario.
It was hilarious, and a bit sad. He'll never believe half the stuff about Bush he hears now, because his first introduction was by such an over-the-top believer. Still, he knows more than he did yesterday morning, so I guess that's good.
