So what's in your D.V.D player?
Tonight I'll be putting in my birthday gift from my Mum "The Battle of Algiers" and am looking much forward to it.

So what D.V.Ds are you currently partaking in?

(Battle of Algiers will be replacing Zodiac)

2. Curious George
we are actually thinking about dumping Netflix and getting digital TV because it takes us forever to watch a video (we've had the same three for at least two weeks).

13. Read the books
I've watched a few of the Sharpe movie back in VHS. But forgot which ones I'd seen, so I drifted away. Plus, I didn't like the casting of Harper. In the books, he's big bloke. A Little John sort of guy.

14. I got some of the books
a long time ago. I enjoyed them then and found it funny a serial was based on my family name. ;-) I don't have them all though and sorta forgot about it,.... then this obession with Sean Bean hit me a couple of years ago and I'm rediscovering them all over again. :-)

Wish I had Bernard Cornwell's capacity to write bestsellers,

19. The films are a prime
action adventure series. Accurate period detail w/ costumes. armory, and army protocol of the time. There also really was an experimental rifle unit at the time too. Cornwell really did his research for this series.

The only thing that's funny is these were made on a shoe string budget , so when they talk about storming a fort, it's all of about 30 people. :P  But the characters and acting, and stories are first rate. Sean Bean is the acknowledged perfect embodiment of this character, a mix of roguish roughness coupled with a natural leadership ability, charm and goodness, but still struggles to fit in with the officer class to which he is promoted not birthed into.

Cornwell didn't write him exactly as Sean plays him, but Cornwell now says when he writes a Sharpe book, he hears Sean's voice in his head. IMO, that's the biggest compliment a writer can pay an actor about their material.

I love them all! :D

I really enjoyed it, especially since I was born in 1972 and didn't remember details of the crimes.
