3. for the most part, I agree...
Some of his songs are fun, like "Livingston Saturday Night", "Get Drunk and Screw" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and even, gawd hep me, "Margaritaville" -- but the cult is revolting. I've ended up at TWO Buffett concerts (dragged there by a woman I was interested in) and the hive mentality just gave me, well, hives. The last time there was this little movie played between sets, sort of a faux WWII movie, in which Buffett and Co. were going to kill rap, disco, and punk (I think those were the three targets) and just showed this weird violent intolerance that absolutely turned me off for good.

7. I never . . . AND HUGH MEANS NEVER . . . understood his appeal.
Pencil him in with the Dead, Phish and DMB; all bands that have massive cult followings but it's painfully difficult to see WHY, as there's nothing really exceptional or outstanding about the music itself.

The other bands are nothing like Buffet. They have their own style. Buffet is charisma-less. It's like finding a huge following for Loverboy.

11. I love the lifestyle (stoned at the beach), but I don't care for his music...
in Buffet's defense, I remember a few years ago, his dismay when he discovered that a large number of his fans were rightwing pigs. Apparently, Buffet is a liberal.

He was at a rally for Kerry/Edwards the night before the '04 election. Changed the words to a couple of songs to support K/E and Sen. candidate Betty Cantor. (sp)
