stupid cat dragged in a bird that is still alive.
i don't know how badly it's injured.
i put the bird outside because it was hopping around after i knocked the cat away, and now it's just sitting there.

1. put it in a box, like a shoebox, in a quiet place away from
where the cats can get to it.

tomorrow try to find a rehabber that will take it (you can look online for 'wildlife rescue' or call a local vet, some vets will take in wildlife at no cost to whomever bring in the animal, and hold it til a wildlife rehabber gets there)

They usually say don't try to feed it or give it water, just leave it alone.

2. the bird doesn't want to go in the box,
so i'm going to leave it out on the porch and keep the cat inside.
hopefully the bird will rest up and regain some of it's strength by morning.

3. I hope it is okay
if one or both of it's wings are broken or damaged it probably will end up as prey for something during the night. If it is just stunned it might recover enough to fly way in a little while, depending on the extent of it's other injuries.

my sister stopped giving canned food to the stupid cat,so i think he's taken up hunting birds to make up for it.

5. you might be able to put a cardboard box over the bird for the night
I've done that in the past to keep it from secondary disaster. I don't hold out much hope for the poor thing. There's something in cat claws that's pretty deadly to birds.

8. Is there a vet near that specializes in bird care?
It is hard to say if you don't know the extent of the injuries. If it were really bad, I'd say put the bird out if its misery and suffering, but you don't know. Good luck!
