I recently decided to go back into the corporate world after being in entrepreneur-land for the last 2 years. Yesterday, I had an interesting interview.
This opportunity started when my wife, who works for company X, ran into one of the IT people and asked if they needed any developers. She explained that I am a developer, and was looking around. The IT guy asked if I have any experience in the area they needed, and it turns out I do. So far, so good.
The IT guy tells me to call his boss immediately, which I did. I left a message, and the boss called me back within a few minutes. We talked, and things got better.
A week later, I get an email that they are concerned they cannot afford me, and weren't sure if they should interview me. I looked at the comparable specs on company X's website, and assured them that if they budgeted similarly, we were in the ballpark. We were back on.
The morning of the interview, the boss emails me some preliminary paperwork to fill out. I notice, however, that now there is Company Y information on the documents and included as part of the boss' signature. I investigate. At the interview, after two weeks of conversation, I find out that I am actually interviewing with an IT firm Y that has the outsourcing IT contract for company X, and the position comes with benefits from company Y, even though company X is a health care company.
Last, they tell me they don't even know who the position would be reporting to yet.
See ya...I took the offer from another company that was on the table. It is a half hour commute, whereas company X/Y I can walk to. Unfortunate, but necessary.
At least now I have a steady paycheck again.
